Default Put on bcp to get pg?

Has anyone's dr. ever put them on birth control pill to try to help them get pg? I have just started my first month of yasmin bcp about a week ago. She wants me to take it until april and then try really hard the following couple months to get pg. She thinks since I have never been on the pill before that maybe this will stabelize my hormones and jump start my ovulation. She also rx me with pcos and insulin resistance. Do you think it would have been a better idea to put me on met to see if that worked before going this route. I am just really confused at why she would put me on the pill if I would like to get pg.

My dr said it regulates your hormones. When you get off of the pill it kinda jump starts your body, and hopefully it will ovulate on it's own. (Not that it always does, but it helps some people. ) That first month you are off of it you start ttc. (He said to make sure you don't get off and wait a few months and then start ttc.)

He also stated that if that didn't work, then he'd proceed w/ met or clomid.

HTH~

My doctor put me on met and yasmin. Yasmin to get my hormones under control while the met was working. I actually got PG the second cycle on Yasmin--I miscarried, but that's another story altogether. I know that yasmin-met has resulted in PG for other PCOS women. It's not supposed to but sometimes it does.

BCP work to get your hormones under control, and while they might not induce ovulation (probably won't at all). It gives your body a break while the met is working ... or that's how good ol endo explained it to me.

I asked this same question on a couple of other boards! I know of 2 PCOSers who got pregnant by taking BCP. One was on Glucophage at the same time and the other wasn't. I'm not sure how it happens, but both pregnancies were successful! The one has 4 children now!

That is remarkable, i did not know this was used as a treatment for infertility...are these women getting pregnant with yasmin while still on it, or soon after stopping it???

Kisme,

Both women got pregnant after coming off the BCP. They were on Yasmin for 3-4 months. Sounds hopeful!

See my post here on BCP titled "Success with Yasmin?" I'm still waiting for some replies to see just how successful this method has been with other SoulCysters, since it is the route my DR recommends before trying Clomid.

Mkj and Constance,

Were you both on Glucophage while on BCP?

I was on BCP for 5 years before I knew I had PCOS so of course when I came off them in June to TTC it wasn't successful. My Dr says it is the combo of Glucophage and Yasmin which should help in succeeding when I TTC again in a few months.

Nope just bcp. did not start the met until 12/04. Mine was dumb luck or as dh likes to say he has really strong swimmers!
Doc said next time it will be much harder as pcos symptoms are much worse now. no ttc for me until my house grows another room. we just figured up our sq ft and it is only 650. we are like how in the hell do we live in this thing.

No I have never took Glucophage, but I only took the birth control pills for about 2 or 3 months, then I said to myself this is not what I want and stopped and 10 weeks after I stopped I found out that I was pg. Her due date did not correspond with my last period but other that my being tired and having GD she did great. I had her a week before my due date and she weighed 8 lbs 15 oz and was 22.5 inches long.

Good luck!

I was on bcp's for about 13 yrs, and even with pcos and hypothyroid problems, I conceived my first child within a month of going off the pill - not true for my second child, but c'est la vie!

My last 2 tries of my injectibles, I was on a bcp for a month before, the first time we didn't do IUI, the second time we did and bam - QUADS. The doctor said it would help get my hormones etc under control. I guess it worked LOL.
