I suppose TECHNICALLY you could use them more than once if you're the only one using them (no biohazards that way). But they lose their sharp point immediately if you use them more than once and poking with a used one can be quite painful.
I definitely recommend using them only once, especially since they're not very expensive.
The first time you forget and accidently use a repeat lancet, you'll know what I'm talking about! It hurts!
My doc told me as long as I kept my fingers clean, I could use the lancets more than once. And frankly, I haven't checked the cost of them yet. But, I've been using only one lancet, per every vial of test strips. That's one lancet per every 50 tests!
I haven't noticed any more pain each time I use the same one over and over again, though.
So, I just now googled and checked on price. Whoops. I was thinking that the lancets would be as expensive as the test strips. Looks like most places (US online) have the lancets at about 12 cents apiece. Well, I guess I can afford to change them a bit more frequently than I have!!! Learned something new today.
And grrrrrrrr, it really peeves me that the d*** tests strips cost so much. Someone is making a happy little profit.

I've re-used my lancets many times. I was told that as long as you're the only one using it, that it's safe. However, after a little while, the needle bends a little bit and tends to hurt more. They may not be that costly, but when you go thru 3 a day, it can add up. It's really up to you if you want to try it, but I haven't had any problems.

I personally use the lancets once and then pitch them. I buy them from Walmart and they are literally under 10 bucks. I spend more than that buying HPT's everymonth. I am diabetic and actually have to test 4-5 times daily. I tried to reuse the lancets but your fingertips will eventually start to hurt and when the needle was dull, I eneded up with tiny dark dots on my fingertips. Check out the prices at wal-mart if you are worried about the cost.
Good Luck.
