Default Q about laser treatments-

Those of you who have a large amount of excess facial hair, and have had laser... how did the tech(s) treat you? Did any make any embarrassing comments about how hairy you are? I've been considering it for a long time, but I'm so sensitive and am terrified of being told something like "wow, that's the worst I've ever seen!" etc... ?

I had a lot, but all of the techs I've had didn't seem to think it was abnormal at all. I mean, they do this every day. I'm sure they've had to have seen it all. No one wants excess hair, it's something we unfortunately have to deal with. All my techs have been great: supportive and really reassuring. Please don't let the fear keep you from going for it--it'll make such a difference in your life.

It's just like a Dr., If they seen 1 they've seen it all. I had really, really bad hair. I am fair skinned but I have black hair, and very coarse hair. I had a really hard time with it in the begining because I used to pluck and shave daily, sometimes I did both. You have to let it grow for the laser to work and I had a hard time doing it because of how it looked. I even cancelled 2 times. But I am so happy I went. It is worth the $$. I was never made to feel embarrased by them. Also when you go you will probably see before and after pictures. as a matter of fact ask to see some. You will see there are cases that will be worse than yours. Good luck!

I had what I thought was one of the worst cases but the techs said they had seen similar cases over and over. For me the laser treatments have changed my life. If your skin is fair with dark hair like mine, they need to use the Alexandrite laser and if your skin is darker the ND Yag. (I hope I spelled these right). I just wish I had started sooner. I'm a different person, I don't have to flinch when my husband touches me. THAT alone was like winning the lottery.

Thanks again! I'm pale as can be, with dark/black hair. Which is probably why I want this done.

What really worried me was when a new friend recently had it done. She said they told her they were so glad they could help her, and that she was someone who really should have it done (unlike people with "less hair"). This friend of mine only had moustache hair and a little bit of chin hair! Much, much less bad than mine.

I haven't gone to a consultation yet, however I would assume they would act very professionally. A lot of women, I'm sure go in with unwanted facial hair within all areas of the scale. Additionally, upon looking up a doctor for laser I did find this information:

Upon completion of the series of treatments, most patients see a 50 to 90 percent reduction in the number of hairs permanently removed, with an average of 70 percent less hair. Additionally, the hairs that remain are typically lighter in color and less coarse -- because dark, thick hair responds better to the laser than does light, fine hair. At the present time, laser hair removal is not effective on white, gray, red, and blonde hair.

So having darker hair may actually be a good thing! I was looking at it and some of mine are light and some are dark. I'm not sure if laser is the best thing for me but I plan to go to a consultation. Only doctors within CT are allowed to do laser, I would expect them to act like medical professionals. Good luck!

I just wanted to add my good experience to the rest of the posters here. I saw two different techs where I went and they were both really sweet, and made me feel very comfortable. I was very pleased with the professionalism, and the results! I wish I would have done it years ago.

I should add...I felt so comfortable after having my face done (in touch up phases now), that I have decided to have my chest done. I'm not embarrassed at all anymore.

I hope your treatments go well!

xoxo.
