A queer BCP mystery...solved! Funny story I was reflecting on over the weekend.
Long ago, in college, I knew I was at least "bi," but at the time was in a long distance relationship with a high school sweetheart (male, great guy). I was on the pill. After a few years, I couldn't deny what I was feeling for one of my female "friends," (who felt similarly, as it turns out) and took the plunge (discovering in the process that while my bf was a really nice guy, it was the gals I was really into). So, I made a big production of "coming out," (cut my head hair, stopped shaving my leg hair, threw out my skirts, ditched the pill, your basic baby dyke pendulum swing).
Several months after I came out, I started noticing hairs on my chin, and on my chest. Wow, I thought! Now that I've ditched my feminine trappings, my "masculine" side must be shining through!
Nearly a decade and a PCOS diagnosis later, I now realize that by going off the pill, the hirsutism was no longer suppressed and indeed, rose to the surface.
(and as a further post-script, you'll be glad to know I've returned to my fine femme self and have recommenced shaving my legs, and despite a slowing receing hairline, I've grown out all my head hair while I still have it!!!)
cheers!
