Default Question ?

Hi

I have a question about medication for hirsutism. Doe anyone know if the medication only work for new hairs and not exisiting ones? so the existing hair would have to be removed completely?

Thanks

Hi
I'm using an antiandrogen (flutamide) for my hirsutism, so i can share a bit from my experience, but first, my doctor told me that once the hair follicle has been created, it is not reversible so there will always be a hair growing there , BUT the medication can slow down the actual growth of the hair so much that it's almost undetectable after you remove it with a method like waxing, etc, where you pull it out of the root, it takes quite a while to grow back, the longer you are on the med the better the results .

And this has been exactly my experience, there are areas where i can shave and last a week or more without seeing the growth coming back, and what does come back is lighter and softer, i used to have to pluck my chin and sideburns every day, now i can go 3-4 days just fine, before i would have stubble popping out the next day or a few hours later!

What i wonder about is , will i have to take this for the rest of my life? what happens if i decide to have a baby and have to suspend the meds?

hope i helped

Hi,

Thanks, you have helped. I did originally think what you told me but i wasnt too sure and i have to wait about another 3 months to see my endo doc again.

I'm also on anti androgen tablets (and praying to see result mega fast!) I did read something similiar (on the internet) about it being irreversible too. I was very sad, angry and depressed to read that. I just wasnt sure since i only read it once, the others internet site seems to left that fact out!

I wish it wasnt the true but it appears that the medication needs to be taken for as long as the hair is a problem. Forever then.

Im not sure about what medications can be taken once pregnant but from what i read you definately cant have anti androgen tablets since it will "feminise" males babies and im guess it can also cause other damage. Best to hear what the doctor has to say about it.

Depressing as it is, there doesnt seem to be much hope for it.
Just pray a miracle cure will happen!!
