I'm not saying that I want to get into this now - I'm still too young. But how old do they reccomend you to be before you apply for adoption? Do they prefer you to be married? I am going to consider it in the future I am just wondering how early I could begin.

For international adoption, different countries have different requirements. China, for instance, requires an adoptive parent to be at least 30 years old. Single women are permitted to adopt from China. In other countries, sometimes there can be no more than 40 years difference between the child's and the mother's age. Countries also sometimes have requirements about how long the adoptive parents must be married before adopting.
In domestic adoption, I don't know who makes the age requirements...does anyone else here know?

I know for Ukraine you have to be 25...thats generally the age for most countries if you go international...and most countries do accept single women..a friend of mine has a China girl and she was adopted singly...and she is BEAUTIFYL !
If you are thinking about it so young I guess what I would be doing is gathering as much information as you can about each country and speaking to people who have completed adoptions in the countries you are interested in. If you are going domestic then a lawyer or your local "childrens Aid" or whatever its called in your town will be able to provide helpful information as well !
Good luck in your search .. It helps the final decision in a big way..

Some agencies have age requirements above and beyond the country requirements for international adoption. I came across this when my husband and I decided to adopt. (I'm 24 & DH is 34) We chose an agency that didn't have an age requirement. As for being 25, if you are married, only one of you has to be over 25. (I know this applies to Guatemala, but not sure about other countries). We looked into domestic adoption, and according to the agency we spoke with, we just had to be 21 yrs old. I don't know if it's older when you want to adopt a child other than an infant.
I hope this helps,

I think in general you have to be 21 to adopt at all, then some agencies or international countries have more strict requirements than others as far as a minimum age, so it would depend on what sort of adoption you were seeking. You can adopt as a single in many circumstances, just some international countries or adoption agencies won't work with singles. But by and large you can.
