Default Question

How long is everybody's RE making them wait after they have a m/c to try again? Mine is making us wait another 3 cycles even though I was so early. I don't agree with it.

I would just totally disregard that!! 3 months is way too long and is old fashioned. Docs have traditionally done this because they assumed it takes 3 months to heal emotionally. What they don't get is that getting pr again quickly can actually help some people to heal emotionally. Many docs are now recommending that you just get right back into it especially if you have infertility cause cycles right after m/c are more fertile. Feel free to join us on the "supposed to be on a rest cycle buds" post on ttc board when you're ready!

Mine told me when the first cycle came around I could go ahead and try again.. It worked now 8 weeks and counting...

The only problem is, you might get grief from him for no cooperating, but you have to do what you feel is right, so do as you must. Personally, I wasn't planning to wait at all, and even before AF showed we didn't use any protection.

Good luck to ya *hugs*

I agree with everyone. 3 months is to long to wait if you don't want to wait. I didn't wait and I got pregnant right away. Since my RE only wanted me to wait 1 cycle she was ok with me getting pregnant so quickly.

Hang in there!!! Join the TTC when you are suppose to rest post. It will help you get through this hard times. It will also make you feel in control of whats going on in your body.

Three months seems way too long -- our RE only told me I needed to wait one cycle before I could try again. Did he give you a reason why he wanted you to wait so long?

Three months does seem too long these days. Three months was the old standard. Most say just one cycle - that is only to help "date" the pg. Mine told me just one cycle to wait to TTC again before we found out it was a molar pg. I would ask your dr. why 3 months and tell him you do not want to wait that long to start TTC again.

We were asked to wait one cycle. Ours was a blight ovum, and we had a natural mc. I think it's longer for ectopic? but I'm not really sure.

I've also heard the 3 mos was more for giref than physical healing. I knew for me getting pg again would help immensely. So as long as you're healthy, I say do what's right for you emotionally. good luck

I don't see an RE but my OB told us to wait 2 or 3 normal cycles. He said so I could heal physically as well as emotionally. I miscarried on my own this last Wednesday and can tell you that I will be trying as soon as possible ! I'm ready to move on--- I think it really depends on how far along you were though and if you needed a d/c etc...... in that case I would wait a little while in order to be sure you've given yourself enough time to heal.

when my RE sent his condolences he said when I was ready to talk about trying again, in 2-3 months, then we could.

I think most doctors are taking in consideration just your physical state, but some take into consideration your emotional state as well. Some people may not be emotionally ready to try again after only 1 month even though physically 1 month is enough time to wait. My OB said he likes to see his patients wait two Af's at least.

Thank you all for responding. I tried to get my RE to let us try again right away, but she says that if you do not wait then you are at a higher risk of m/c again. So, we have to wait 2 more cycles. I think that we are going to try again with just using Met. but it never worked before, so I am pretty sure that it won't work now. Two more cycles I guess is not that long. Good luck to you all.

With my miscarriage last June, my OB initially said to wait 3 cycles. On my followup visit, I asked why I had to wait that long, because I was impatient and didn't think I could wait 3 WHOLE CYCLES!! He said the main reason he asked couples to wait 3 cycles was purely for emotional healing, but that I seemed ready to get started again, and gave me the go-ahead to try after one cycle. Of course, it ended up taking 6 months...but he never mentioned to me that I'd be at higher risk of another miscarriage, especially since the last time was my first pregnancy, and he'd not found anything wrong with it.
