Default Question

Hi, there's a good possibility my husband and I will adopt in a few years. I have one concern about our acceptance-I'm seeing a psychologist for "generalized anxiety disorder". Basically, I worry a lot. It's nothing severe, I don't take med's for it and I don't have panic attacks or anything-I just worry more than I want to. I'm worried (ironic, huh?lol) that this may hurt us getting approved for adopting in the future. Thanks for any help!

Hello,

I don't really have an answer for you...I'm sorry. It probably wouldn't be a big deal--you have to have physical and medical clearance from you doctor. I was treated for depression and was on anti depressants after my miscarriage as well as when my dh deployed right after 9/11, but that didn't seem to be a big deal with our agency. I wish I had a more concrete answer for you! Maybe someone else here has an answer?? Anyone?

Best of luck!

it doesnt sound like you have a mental illness. i dont think by what you described you would need to be too "worried". i informed our sw i had seen a psychologist, and was not dissqualified. I think the main thing, is they want to know that you know your self, good and bad. Nobody is perfect, they know that as well as us.
i wouldnt make a big deal about it. just say something like you see a therapist for general self improvement, and growth.
good luck!!
