We have looked at an agency that requires the payment up front...is that smart? Or where do you look for an agency that doesn't require payment until atleast a match....
The agency I went with did not take any money other than an application fee and homestudy fee upfront after that we did not give them any more money until after we signed the paperwork to bring the baby home after we signed the papers we gave them a check for the adoption fees walked out of the hospital together and went our seperate ways. I would personally not give any money upfront why should they request you pay for the money before you are matched? I would be careful with that type of situation seriously I would be afraid I'd be waiting years with them already taking the money what if another agency or situation came along with a match sooner then you would be stuck waiting on them to find a match or lose the money. Keep looking. As a matter of fact my agency told me that upfront they will not take money until after we were placed as alot of agencies I spoke with told me that. Do yuor research online that's what I did just type adoption agencies in Texas and it should bring up a whole list of them or just type adoption agencies period if you don't mind traveling to get your baby.

yeah I agree with babygirl that doesn't seem right to me all the adoption agencys that I have looked into don't take all your money upfront. I would steer clear of one that wanted all the money upfront. Is this for domestic adoption or international?

Our international adoption agency requires some money up front but the most of it is on the backend just as you're about to travel/are traveling.
I would go w/ an agency that you either don't have to pay anything up front (not too many out there, I don't think) or that you pay part up front. You should also get a contract & in that contract it should say something about refunds.
Good Luck!

I think that I have gone over all of them...I have been researching agencies for the past 2 years. I am leaning right now to Adoption Angels in San Antonio. The thing that caught me was the payment of 15k. But I have heard nothing but good things from them. In fact today I was given 2 referals families from the agency that did our hs (not Adoption Angels)...so I'll see where that goes. For the longest time we were going to do Inheritance Adoptions in Wichita Falls, but the hs agency told us that they are not the reputable and gave us some horror stories...so anyhow, I have also looked atht Sweet Beginnings...Lisa is out of CA, but the thing with her is that she doesn't require payment until placement is made. So yes there is an investment, but not up front...if that makes sense.
We adopted our son through the Independent Adoption Center who I HIGHLY recommend. They are so awesome!
As for payment up front, I think that is pretty standard for domestic adoption - at least partial payment. Our's took about 1/2 up front, then a fee when you are matched, then a fee when the baby is born. But they guarentee that your money will go towards the adoption of a child. So if for some reason a match falls through...they put the money towards another child until you have successfully adopted...so there is no risk.
Good luck!

Just my opinion, but I would never give money upfront. Have you asked any questions of the agency? What the adoption stats for them is? How many children they have placed in the age range you are seeking?
I don't know if you are interested...I am in DFW area...The Arrow Project was the only agency we worked with that actually helped us (and we decided not to go with them only due to the church and religious requirements). We tried to go through Pathways...who I highly do NOT recommend and most likely, next time, we will go through CPS of The Arrow Project. After being through all the adoption certification classes and knowing what we know, we know what questions to ask and we know what to be wary of...I would certainly be wary if they want money upfront....the only way I would EVER go with an agency like that is if they had proof of the background of the baby...which they rarely ever have...and even then, they would have to be seriously reputable....
