Default Question about bcp..

I was wondering if any of you are taking bcp's to help regulate af before you start ttc? I am debating on possibly asking my doc about this. Simply because I have also read that they regulate hormones ect. Any thoughts? Or anyone doing this ?
Thanks in advance
Kelly

I am I am! I'm on yasmin to whoop my hormones into shape, and I'm on metformin and losing weight. I'm deadly scared to get off the BCP b/c i'm scared I won't get a period even with the met and weight loss. But, I think next month is going to be my last pack. We'll see though.

I am also doing this at the request of my doctor. She told me to go on Yasmin for a couple months to help regulate me (I hadn't had a period in 8 months before that). She told me that I will only have a couple months to try to get pregnant, and after that my body will go back to its unpredictable ways. Then I'll have to start with the Clomid and Metformin, but hoping I can get pregnant without have to go that route. Just finished my 2nd pack so its time to try for baby!

I know what you mean. If it helps at all, my dr told me 2 to 3 months or until I didn't have any break throughbleeding while I on the pill. I am anxious so I just did 2 months and didn't have any breakthough.

If this helps at all, I am very irregular without BCP (was on them for 10 yrs), and I had heard that you're really fertile right after stopping them. So we tried diligently to get pregnant the first month I went off them - I got pregnant that first month. I firmly believe going off the pill and trying right away was a big reason it worked. i think staying on them for a few months then going off sounds like a good strategy - I will do that again when we try again.
Good luck!

WOW, ok thanks for the insight!! So basically timeline wise i should take my last pack the month before he gets home and then just go at it (well we will anways...hehehe but ya know) thanks again, you gave me a little bit of a ray of hope that what i'm doing is right! thanks again.

Yes yes! Try (especially hard) for the first month or two right when you stop the Pill. I took my last pack Dec. 2005 (got AF over Xmas 05) and conceived three weeks later. When the docs say it takes a few months for the Pill to get out of your system (that's what they told me) I think that throws women off and they don't start really trying until a few months after they've stopped the Pill. I think they really mean it's POSSIBLE it could take a few months for your body to fully regulate to a consistent 28 day cycle (if you have one)...
People had warned me to be careful when I went of the Pill - little did they know that we were trying! GOOD LUCK - fingers crossed for you!

See that's where I'm worried, b/c I don't have a regular cycle at all. If i'm not on some kind of pill I get MAYBE one or two periods a year, if that. And i've went off BCP's before and didn't have AF for months and months after. So, since i'm doing so good on my weight loss and metformin, i might go ahead and get off of them this month. and let metformin the weight loss do it's thing *fingers crossed*. thanks for you reply though!!

i also don't get AF w/out bcp - only a few times a year - that's how i was diagnosed w/pcos. when i went off them in dec. i didn't know if i'd ever get it again. but it was probably the metformin that worked for me. since having my son nearly 8 mos. ago i didn't go back on BCP but have gotten my period every month since he was born. so it MUST be the met xr working!

I went on bcp for 2 months in oct-dec went off and o'ed (i dont O on my own) but thats its the next cycle back to my usual malfunctions! In my case i just have the one month after stopping bcp to have a chance. So id wait to stop bcp right before dh gets home, like keilygal said ..i think the first two months after stopping are your best months. Good luck

I actually am pretty sure that I am ovulating WHILE on BCP's. I had a horrible pelvic pain on my right side month, and my gyn said that I was probably ovulating and had a cyst. I was on Yasmin. I switched to Loestrin this month, because I was sick of Yasmin giving me the worst acne of my life, and I'm pretty sure I just ovulated agagin. Some low dose pills actually help us PCOS'ers regulate our hormones just enough to help us ovulate and get preggo. GL!
