I was induced with both daughters when I was O dialated and 0% effaced. My first labor was 5 1/2 hours from start to delivery. My second was 8 hours from arrival at the hospital to delivery. Neither one was terrible or near a c-section. I believe it really differs from person to person. There are also different ways to be induced, besides pitocin. There is one induction that involves inserting a tablet vaginally that disolves to help ripen the cervix. Maybe discuss other options with the doc.

wrapped cord can cause you not to efface...??
Yep. Anything that keeps the baby from decending into the pelvis and putting pressure on your cervix will keep you from effacing and/or dilating. A wrapped cord will do that, a big baby that won't fit into the pelvis, a baby that's turned/facing the wrong way...any of those things.

If your u/s showed no cord around the baby's neck, then you probably don't have that to worry about. At this point, they're usually too big and too cramped to move too much to get it wrapped now.

My doctor induced me 2 days before my due date because of my blood preassure and swelling. I was 2 cm and 80% effaced. I was started on Cytotech

and later Pitocin. The induction basically failed (I wasn't progressing and DD started having heart decellerations) and I had ended up having a "stat" (not quite emergency) C-section.

In hindsight, I'm not sure what the right decision was. She was definitely NOT ready to come out, but I was having enough complications that I needed to deliver.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but there's a thing called a "Bishop Score" that scores you and basically predicts your chance for a successful induction. Might be worth checking out...
