Default Question about being so tired

I have been tired for two years now, and with the PCOS dignoses three weeks ago I know why, but how do you get rid of it. I sleep 8 hours every night, but I am still tired. Right now I could curl up in a ball and go to sleep, but it does not make much difference. Any suggestions would be great!!!

Default Tired All The Time (TATT)

This may be due to you being Carbohydrate Sensitive. I have been TATT for 15 years, I only discovered that it was a sensitivity to the carbs (which I was addicted to), when I decided to look into the Atkins Diet. If you follow a low carb diet properly, you should notice a difference wthin a week. I did.

Low carb made me sick, and my doc told me not to do it.

What about your sugar intake?
I understand that some people just cant do low carb, but too much sugar can leave you with troughs and peaks of energy.
Other than this, I cannot offer anymore advice, sorry.

You might have a few things going on.
Do you feel like you HAVE to have carbs to bring you out of your slump only to be all crappy tired again? If so, you might be reactive hypoglycemic. I was constantly tired and nearly falling asleep at work and driving home from work no matter how much sleep I got.
I found out it was due to my diet (I was reactive hypoglycemic) so I cut down on carbs(I did not eliminate them and I eat more than what any low-carb diet suggests) and found out the trick was to eat the same amount of proteins with the carbs, even if it's a candy bar or piece of cake.
I keep string cheese at work now and always have sugar free peanut butter and canned nuts around. If I want to eat some candy, i eat a piece of string cheese, a spoonful of PB or a handful of nuts and then the candy/cake.

You might also be lacking in vitamins. Do you take a multi vitamin with b-complex additions? If not, you might want to try this. Yesterday my dr. suggested this to me as an over-all health thing in addition to the meds he's giving me and my folic acid.

And one last thing... Do you exercise? Exercise is probably one of the best ways to gain engery. The more you exercise the more your body burns and your metabolism will speed up and you'll have more energy because your body will be burning your fat fuels faster and more efficiently.

Good luck! It's definately not fun to deal because you'll have to find the right combination of things for your body and it might take some trial and error approaches.

Take care - Wiggles.

I couldn't do low carb either, but I did a moderate carb, and it helped tremendously. Also, a calcium defeciency can make you fatigued...The Glycemic Index diet is pretty nice, and a PCOS version is due out any day now.

I don't feel like I need carbs to pull me out of being tired. I am doing what I would consider a low carb Weight watchers diet. I have not had pasta for some time. I still eat bread, but it is the sugar free whole wheat stuff.
AS far as vitamins, I would love to take them, but I am so senistive to vitamins. The last complete vitamin I took I had an allergic reaction. Since then I have not tried again. I plan to, but I have not built up the courage.
AS for exercise I am a manager at a Curves for women, So I get enough exercise. I can exercise any time of the day.

MY DO SAID MINE WAS FROM DEPRESSION MOSTLY. HE PUT ME ON LEXAPRO. I FELT BETTER WITH THE FIRST DOSE. AND THE BEST THING IS IT IS NOT HABIT FORMING. HE ALSO PUT ME ON METFORMIN. IT HAS BEEN 2 MONTHS NOW AND I FEEL TONS BETTER. I AM OFF OF BOTH MEDS NOW. AND I STILL HAVE ENERGY. WE ALSO JUST JOINED OUR LOCAL HEALTH AND FITNESS CENTER AND I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER AFTER A WORKOUT. HOPE THIS HELPS. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL GIRL! YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Well then, it sounds like aside from the vitamins you should be in good shape, but if you haven't had carbs in awhile aside from sugar free bread your sugar might be too low.. do you monitor it? You might have a deficiency like pooker suggested.

Have you been to a dr. for them to test this? If not, I would suggest going and explaining to the dr. the problem and what you've tried on your own to help and see what they can do for you.

I was so, so tired I could barely function, which led to me pushing until I finally was diagnosed with PCOS.

Now I don't low carb, but I do try to keep my diet pretty free of refined sugar and flour, sticking to whole foods instead. And I feel much, much better if I have some protein every time I eat.

This is probabaly a dumb question, but have you had your thyroid checked out? I use to get fatigue real bad i would sleep anywhere from 14 to 16 hrs a day and still be tired.I would sleep so much my body would ache. Even driving was scary i would feel myself falling asleep behind the wheel. Now that i am on the proper meds for my thyroid i don't suffer from that problem anymore. Well let me know how everything turns out.

While you're getting your thyroid checked, you might also want to check your iron levels, make sure you're not anemic.

Iron and Thyroid are both ok. When I talked to my doctor she told me my blood sugar was a little low, and that it could be the cause of being so tired. I am finally at my actually dose of Met. So I am going to go one week like this and then we might change up the meds.
