I am still learning NFP, which is essentially what you're talking about, and I am also having difficulty differentiating between the types of mucus. That is why I like the sympto-thermal method. You use sensation, mucus, temp and (optionally) cervical position to kind of cross-check the various symptoms of fertility.
I don't know what method you are using, or the ways that the various mucuses are described, but I can tell you some of the differences for the S-T Method. The three types are dry (no mucus, but possibly dampness that disappears when touched), Sticky Mucus (stretches less than an inch), and Egg-white (stretches more than an inch). Sticky also is white or yellow and won't draw threads, as opposed to the even partially clear and draw threads.
I can't help with the cervix position, since I opt not to do that portion, but I hope I was able to help with the mucus
