Default question about early mc please help

I am having a very early miscarriage and I am wondering why it is hurting so much? I had just gotten a positive test two days ago and started cramping and bleeding late that night. Last night I had terrible pain in my lower abdomen and also in my lower back that radiated to the backs of my legs. Today I feel like I can't sit up straight because of the pain in my abdomen.
This is my third miscarriage, and the other two were quite painful but they were further along....much closer to 3 months. I didn't think when you were so early on that there could be much in there to cause so much pain.
Does this sound normal? Why is it hurting so much? Can anyone share their experience with a very early pregnancy loss?

Lindie, first of all I want you to know that I am so terribly sorry you are going through this at all. I expereinced an early miscarriage at about 5 weeks 4 days roughly two weeks ago. I was told that most of the pain was due to the shedding of the thickened uterine lining. I experienced joint pain and burning in my hips and legs, heavy lower back cramps, and abdominal cramping as well. I did have times where I couldn't sit up straight as well. If the pain worsens call your doctor or go to the ER. Are you taking anything for the pain right now at all? I wish I knew an easy answer for you as to why it hurts so much but I don't. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you right now.

*hugs and love*
Angela

Hi Angela, Thanks for telling me about your experience.. especially about the burning in the hips and pain in the lower back. That's what's going on for me now, but I hadn't experienced it so much with the others. It helps to know that it's probably normal. I am taking the mega Ibuprofins they gave me when I had the last mc, which was in November. That baby was due the end of May and I keep thinking that I've done something wrong by TTC before its due date passed. Thanks for your reply and I am so sorry for your loss as well.

Oh Lindie, you haven't done anything at all by trying again before the due date was passed. Nothing wrong at all. Please, if you need to talk you just go right ahead and send me a private message. I have good ears and good shoulders. *hugs*

Hello Lindie and Angela,

I just had my second m/c in March. My first one was in Nov of last year and it wasn't too bad. I didn't miss any work or anything. I hurt pretty bad one night but then it was just like a really bad period. In March I had a D&C and again, it hurt but nothing what you are describing so I am sorry for your pain. But I was curious, do you know why you are m/c? My Dr. who by the way is so awesome. He truly is a blessing and is the reason why I think I have handled the m/c so well. Just knowing that I am finally in the right hands if it is meant to be. But I have to admit Mothers Day was no picnic.

Anyway, Dr. Andrew did several tests and sent the fetus to a pathologists etc. Everything came back normal except my homocystein levels which were at a 10, way too high. He put me on RX Folgard which is mostly Folic Acid, B6 and B12 and told me that I will have to take it permanently to prevent blood clotting etc. The blood clots were cutting off the nutrients to the fetus thus resulting in a m/c. Also an antiphospholipid test came back high as well and I suppose I will have to take baby aspirin during my next pg. Have you gone to the October mommy thread or something like that under miscarriages? Well there are quite a few other women with this same dx. It seems like another lovely side effect of this PCOS thing we have...great huh? Right when I can come with one symptom boom here comes another one. But at least I have an answer and know what is going on. Most of the treatment was injection of heparin during pg. ???? I get worried about all of these drugs, are they safe? Utah just passed a surrogacy law here and I am fortunate to have a sister-in-law who would love to be a surrogate for me and my husband, it's getting more and more tempting. But at the same time, if everything is safe then I don't want to miss out on that miracle of having a baby growing inside and sharing that experience with my DH. I think that is what is so hard, my DH wants a baby so bad I think even more than I do and it hurts that I haven't been able to give him that but I know it will happen one day, I have to believe it. Nothing ever comes without faith, right?

I don't know if this helps but I thought I would share.
Hey Angela, way too go on the awesome weight loss! That is great.
What are you doing?

Take care,
Marni

((Lindie and Marni)).

I'm so sorry about your losses. My loss was later, so I'm not much help here. I just want you to know that the women on this board have literally saved my life on many occasions when I wanted to give up. We're all here for you.

BTW, Heparin during pregnancy is considered very safe. My ex-boss had to inject herself three times a day through FIVE pregnancies (all these babies survived). They didn't figure out her clotting problem until she'd lost four babies.

Hi Viv,

Thanks for your kind words and concern. I am also sorry about your loss.
I know, I can't thank Kat Carney enough for starting this website!!!!
It is just loaded with information and really helps to know that there are so many other women out there going through the same thing.

Thanks for the info on Heparin. I just feel like there are so many drugs out there and it makes me wonder ya know? I only take the Folgard and then of course, all of meds when TTC which isn't fun. That clomid makes me a whole other person. I told my DH that he should just move into the fire house for those ten days(he is a ff). Anyway, he is a good sport about it and I catch him almost chanting...she's hormonal, she's hormonal....in order to refrain himself from starting an argument or something if I am being a bit crazy. Kind of funny.

Anyway, congrats on your weight loss too.
Hey, how do you get the ticker on here? I have a ticker thru TickerFactory.com but forgot how to post it here. I did it last year with my pg but tried last night and didn't get anywhere.

Marni

I'm so sorry about your losses. I didn't have much pain with my early loss, but I'm not much of a cramper in general. Each one is different, I guess. If you do feel like something is seriously wrong, now or later, don't hesitate to get checked for infection. I hope it's dwindling by now and that you can focus on healing your heart instead.
So many hugs!
Sheri

Viv, thanks for posting this, it reassures me.

Heparin is safe during PG because it does not cross the placenta. Baby aspirin DOES cross the placenta, but the dosage is SO small that it is believed to be safe.

As for what you are going through now, Lindie. First I would like to say how sorry I am for your losses. Every experience is different, and I imagine the same thing applies to the symptoms and side effects and pain level. I hope it gets easier for you as the days go by. You will be in my thoughts.

Marni, I had to have somebody else post my ticker for me. I got SO frustrated. Good luck!

Just a quick reply here since I am getting ready for my morning exercise. Marni, I went from 223 down to 167 in about 9 months just by low carbing, walking, and then the added bonus of working at a job that requires me to haul in at least 7500 lbs of seed every Thursday. Add to it my sporadic experiences with The Firm tapes and I have success! My sweetie and I went shopping yesterday for clothing too! I was originally in an 18/20 and now am in a 12/14. I can get the 12's buttoned and zipped though without sucking in, but they are tight in the rear. Those are my "goal" jeans. Good luck and if you have any more questions holler!

Hi Angela,

Thanks for sharing. I have mostly been a size 14 but was pushing a 16 last summer then dropped to a 12 then I got pg and went off low carb and bam the weight came back. I m/c then went low carb and dropped again, then pg again in February and at the ultrasound the scaled topped 178 again. (ouch).
So I picked up Body for Life for Women, my best move yet that book is so inspirational and makes so much sense. Eating the right kinds of food in the right portions at the right time!! I feel like it is a way to eat healthy especially during pg. I hit the gym hard too. I always walked my dog for 45 minutes a day but obviously that wasn't removing much weight so now I do strength training and cardio, water aerobics, yoga etc. Yesterday I got into a size 10, still snug though so I will wait another couple of weeks. The scale says 170 now??? but I am not going by that because I know I am gaining muscle too. The way my clothes fit says it all. My goal is a size 8. My exercise pants are actually a Medium now too. I have always had large and even extra large so that was exciting. I just feel so much healthier. It is still frustrating to know how low to go on carbs etc. I heard it is hard on your kidneys but I think I will do the induction and then add the fruits and whole grains because I am working out so much I think my body really needs them too. They are the smart carbs :-) (in the right portions of course).

Well keep up the good work and you'll soon be even more fit and sexy.
Take care

Thanks for the replies. I am feeling much better.
Marnikay-Thank you so much for you info on the medical tests. I'll see my RE in June and discuss things with him then. they just sent me in for a boat load of blood tests. They had done those ping-o-gram tests and found that I am structurally normal. Now we'll see about other things.
Good luck to you all and thanks for the support. I really appreciate it.
