My Mood: Points: 16,529.96 Bank: 342,510.14 Total Points: 359,040.10 | Question about first AF on Met.......(heavy and unexpectedly early??) AF arrived today.....early and unexpected. I usually have 30 - 36 day cycle, but AF arrived after only a 26 day cycle. Hmmmmm. Is that normal??
And not only did she come early, she came in rather violently! I'm having an extremely heavy period with lots of tissue. (sorry, TMI!)
Just wondering if this is normal.
Therese
P.S. Started the Met on 2/24....am up to 1000mg

My Mood: Points: 1,126.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,126.00 | I started Met a year ago, and have had regular 28 day cycles (which is what we are "supposed" to have) for the first time in my life.
Very heavy and bad cramping. Lasting a full 6-7 days. I used to have af about once every 4 months and then she would only hang around for about 4 days.
So I believe as the gluc is helping to correct our hormonal balances we start to have the periods we were meant to have but didn't because of the PCOS.

Points: 5,417.51 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,417.51 | i generally need prometrium to start af, but after a few months on met, af came two weeks after af from prometrium! i was a bit surprised. it wasn't too heavy, but was a little longer than normal. i have since stopped met, due to getting sick from an upped dosage. i need to start it again, but i'm reluctant to.

You can expect your first several AF's on met to be heavy with some cramping..your body has a lot of lining to shed if you were AF-free for a long time like I was. The good news is, the next several months, you will find they lighten considerably. For me peronally, after having a lifetime of 7- 10 day periods that were so heavy I had to sleep with a towel "diaper", I am now having 4 day AF's with only a couple of heavier days..and that is not half as heavy as they used to be! The last couple of days are minor spotting, and the AF darkens and tapers off much quicker. My AF's are a BREEZE now! What a relief!
And be THRILLED about the fact that it started working early! That means the drug is already working well for you..it was 3 months before I got an AF and almost a year before I started dropping weight and seeing real results. The drug is obviously really doing the trick!
