Question Question about getting up to 1500 mg per day

How did your docs titrate you up to 1500 mg per day? Mine has me doing 500 mg per day for 10 days, then 1000 mg per day for 10 days, and then 1500 mg per day after that. Does this seem like a fast track, or pretty standard?

I'm on the extended release of Metformin.

Thanks!!

I'm new on Met but my Endo has me on 500mg for 7 days, then 1000mg, 1500mg, and finally 2000mg per day. Each dose is for only 7 days until I reach the goal of 2000mg per day.

Sounds pretty standard to me...

I'm also at 1500mg daily....started out at 500 then 1000......for about 5 days each before moving the dosage up....

Thank you both so much for replying. I feel better knowing that this schedule is pretty standard. I'm beginning to have energy today that I haven't felt in ages (especially after the last three days). I guess I'll have to go through this adjustment twice more (at 1000 mg and 1500 mg) during this month. It will be worth it, though, if I can feel as good as I do today more often in my life.

I actually started at 1000mg and in 10 days, I go up to 1500 then ten days after that I will do my full 2000mg. I am so tired at 1000mg, I dread going up to 1500mg on Friday. But, its got to be done I suppose.

When you move up to 1500, are you doing that three times a day? Just curious how that works. Currently I take 500 in the morning and 500 in the evening?

Angela, I didn't realize that you STARTED at 1000. It's no wonder you're feeling so bad. If you're doctor said it was okay to drop down to 500, you may want to give that a try for a week or so, then go up to 1000 and start the schedule your doctor gave you. The longer you give your body to adjust the better you'll feel.

When I started met I was taking it for at least 2 months before I went up to the full dose. I started at 500, took it for 3 weeks, moved to 1000, another three weeks, and so on. I stayed at 1500 for a while, had more labs done, and my doctor then said I should go up to 2000 since I wasn't showing much improvement.

Do you have the yechy side effects every time you go up on met.? I'm on 500 mg/day (for the last 9 wks) and I'm hoping the doc. will up it when I see him tomorrow. The first 3 wks. on it were great... lot's of energy. Now It's like my body is used to it. I still feel better, but have noticed a slight regression.

So if he increases the dose, will I be running to the toliet like I did the first few days? Just wondering.

My dr. started me on 1500mg (500mg 3 times a day) right away. For the first week I wasn't feeling so well but after that I was fine. After reading this post it seems a bit unusual now.

So far ladies, I think I had one episode of diarrhea and that was my second day of the 500mg dose. Tonight I up to 1500mg and I've always taken it with my last meal. I have noticed that I am a little more sleepy.

Unfortunately I did, but they weren't as bad as the initial side effects and they didn't last as long.
