Default Question about heartrates

So, I went and had my U/S last week and the baby was at 140, but the doctor said it could be higher because it was so small, the microphone might not pick it all up.

My sister had an U/S today, and she is exactly as far along as I am. We both are due on Feb. 16th. Her heartbeat was at 160 and the doctor told her that was really good.

Is 140 considered low? He also told her because of how strong the heartbeat was, her chance of M/C was at less than 2%. IF mine is lower, then is my chances higher?

well i had my first u/s at 7 weeks 2 days. at that time the babys heart rate was 135. they said that everything looked good. By the next u/s I think it had jumped up to almost 180. So if 140 is slow...then i guess my babys heart rate was pretty bad ..

i think its fine at 7 weeks.

There is a wide range of normal for hb's that early in pg. My first son's was 135 at 6 weeks 5 days. This pg the hb was 158 at 7 weeks. My doctor didn't say one word to me about 135 being slow, he actually said the baby had a good strong heartbeat. If you google it you'll see a wide range of numbers. Some sites say 120-160 and some say 140-170 is normal.

My bean had a HR of only 130 at 7 weeks 1 day-- I was worried that it was slow-- then I went back at 8 weeks 2 days and it had increased to 180. My RE office and OB told me that anything over 120 is good and you should only worry about m/c if it is below 100.

Good luck!

My first scans indicated both babies around 140 at about 8 or 9 weeks. They have always had very similar heart rates throughout the pregnancy. At 13 weeks they were up to 165. At 17 weeks they were back to about 150. I think that anything between 120 and 180 or even a little higher is normal.

My specialist said that anywhere from 120-160 is considered normal. I don't think being towards the lower end makes your chance of miscarriage any higher.

My High Risk doc doesn't even take the heart rate that early. I think your baby is fine.

The heartrate can vary by a lot. Actually a lot of people use it to predict the sex of the baby. The higher it is the better chance it is a girl and the lower it is the better chance of a boy. I have used this to predict the sex of many a friends baby. Usually it is accurate. Occasionally someone will be the opposite, but I am right more than I am wrong. So maybe your sister is having a girl and you are having a boy.
