Default Question about insulin resistance

Is it possible to be both insulin resistant AND hypoglycemic?

My doctor thought I was hypoglycemic before diagnosing me with PCOS and insulin resistence. It seems that at least in me those things went hand in hand.

After I started taking Met my blood sugar does not get as low and has stabilized.

I have hypoglycemic episodes. I don't get them near as often as I did before taking Met. If you are IR, your pancreas has to make more insulin than a non-IR person to get your body to process glucose after eating. That surge in insulin brings your glucose back to normal levels, but once the insulin has done its job, there is still too much in your body. It keeps working to lower your glucose even though your glucose is already at a good level. That's what causes the hypoglycemia

I have also read that IR people can have hypoglycemic symptoms, but if they check their blood sugar, it is normal. The article I read on this said that doctors & researchers have not yet found the cause of this.

I also have both. I always thought the metformin caused the low blood sugar though? It even says so in the list of side effects.

Anyway, no matter what I eat (unless I drink juice) my BS stays between 80-100. If I go 2-3 hours without eating anything it can dip as low as 50. Usually in the low 70s I'll get to feeling extremely sick and either have some hard candy or binge on something.

It's really made it hard with cravings and my ability to lose weight.
