Post Question about IR...Please give opinions

I have been reading that there are no outward signs of IR. But I noticed that whenever I eat a high carb meal I get extremely tired and moody. I took naps ALL the time. But I when I started taking avandia, I had much more energy and did not sleep as much. SO, what was the low energy and intolerance to carbs all about if it wasn't IR? Sorry if this sounds confusing.

Doesn't sound confusing to me at all! And I think Dr. Thatcher's book has the symptoms you mention plus several more, including carb cravings!

I know where you coming from about the tiredness and mood swings. I too notice after eating "high carb" I get really lethargic and almost feel as if I cannot think straight. I still have to watch my carb intake even though I didn't test as insulin resistant. (My fasting was 5!). Upon the glucose challenge though the insulin must have gone through the roof because I fell asleep. It was very strange and a reaction my doctor had never seen. I have a moderate carb intake and balance protein with carbs and feel my best when I do. Otherwise, I plan for a nap!

There are several great (and easy to read) books on IR.

Here are my favorites: http://www.soulcysters.com/books.htm#syndromex

The first one on the list is really great, and mentions pcos on the cover...

Thanks for replying with the information Kat!

I would like to also add that all of the symptoms you described are very much IR symptoms. I had them for at least 10 years and never knew what it was. By the time I knew what it was, it had turned into diabetes.

I remember having no energy, craving carbs and being hungry an hour or two after eating a big meal. Towards the end I was craving sweets--especially chocolate. I had a bowl of M & M's on my coffee table all the time!
Hope all of this helps!

Thanks for all of the replies. They were very helpful. At least I know I am not crazy. I had a fasting inulin of 36, which is extremely high. It only seemed logical I would have some kind of physical problems due to that. I came across a few articles that kept stating there were no symptoms and that sounded ridiculous to me. Thanks again.
