Default Question about Metformin -Sleepy?

For the first week i'm on metformin 1 pill a day 500mg then starting Sunday I take two pills a day...This pill makes me sleepy. I was at work the other night and I was so tired I had to leave..I had 3 more hours left in my work schedule... Does it make ya'll sleepy too?

ps. I've been eating a lot since I've been on it too* is that a side effect> Anyone else going thru that?

I've been having the sleep side effect however I've been so sick Ive not cared to eat most of the time at all. I had to reduce my dosages though because I started at 2000mg/day and was vomiting constantly. You may find you are not as hungry once your dosage is raised a bit. I've been on Metformin and my sleepiness has decreased to just a bit more than what I was prior to taking the meds.

I was just prescribed metformin today and was told to take it at bedtime (same dosage as you, 500mg first week then double). After the first week she said morning and night, so I guess I'll find out in about a week if I get that sleepy too.

I used to have lots of side effects but over time they went away. I am on the max dose of 3000mg now with no side effects at all.

When I started met I was on 1000mg. I found that the very first day I had more energy than usual. I replaced a lot of the carbs I was eating with proteins and took my pills with breakfast and dinner. I am now on 1500mg (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and have had very few side effects. 2 episodes of gi distress and upset stomach a few times.

nikra- you started at 2000mg a day???!!! that is crazy i would talk to your dr.
i started at 500 mg and i didnt feel well for the first week or so.

i have been eating more, but i also quit smoking at the same time so i think that had something to do with it. i ahvent noticed anything in my sleep.

i have been on it for a little over a month as of today and i dont really notice anything yet.

I take only 500mg a day for now & I have extreme sleepiness. I am supposed to be increasing but not tolerating well...just tryn to take it slow. I have read on other threads that vitamins b complex & d3 should b helpful with this...bcuz the metformin causes us to b deficient in them. I just bought some 2nite to take but will start on them 2morrow, so i will c how that works for me.

Hello,
I have found that taking Metformin with food, in the middle of a meal, has helped with the nausea.
Good Luck!!!
