My Mood: Points: 15,859.21 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 15,859.21 | Question about Mirena possible side effects So I'm scheduled to have the Mirena inserted tomorrow and I am honestly having second thoughts. I have read many sites discussing various levels of horror stories outlining many side effects. I had read them early in my research on the Mirena and took the research and "stored it away". I decided that I will try it and hope for the best.
Well now less than 24 hours away from my insertion, I foolishly decided to google Mirena and of course now I am having second thoughts due to the pages of complaints I came up with. Most people complain about weight gain, acne, and depression.
What scares me the most is the depression. When I was on the pill for many years (I was on desogen), I had varying amounts of depression/anxiety that led to really unhappy thoughts. I never realized that the depression episodes that I encountered were induced by the pill until I came of them. Since coming off I feel great and DO NOT want to go back to any type of depression/anxiety.
So finally my question- does anybody know if you encountered depression/anxiety side effects on the pill are you more likely to encounter similar side effects with the Mirena?
I do plan on discussing this tomorrow before I allow the IUD to be inserted but doctors don't know everything. Right now I wouldn't be surprised if I do not have it inserted tomorrow... right now I am not 100% comfortable... sux cuz I paid out of pocket for the Mirena... (I know, I know... stupid me...)
I feel foolish that I've waited till now to ask this question. I appreciate any feedback...

My Mood: Points: 15,859.21 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 15,859.21 | Ok- I bit the bullet and got it put in.
MANY women at the practice I go to have the Mirena and none of them had anything negative to say. Even the midwife who put it in for me has a Mirena. With that being said, I felt a lot more comfortable. I have been going to this practice for just about half my life and I trust their opinion 100%.
I hope I do not have any adverse reactions... keep your fingers crossed for me!

My Mood: Points: 4,733.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,733.67 | I have had a good experience so far. No depression or any bad side effects. It is day 4 and I get occasional light cramping and I have stopped spotting. There are 2 girls in my docs office and none have experienced depression. I also read all of the bad stuff and was sceptical and rather scared. I am happy to hear that your procedure went well. How are you feeling today? |

My Mood: Points: 15,859.21 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 15,859.21 | I feel good! I slept well... very minor cramping... more like twinges every now and again... just spotting and it's only mainly when I wipe... I really hope this is a good sign. I do not regret it at all especially realizing that I can just get it taken out if I really feel it's doing me harm. I am grateful that I did read all of the "horrifying" side effects though because I know what some women experience and I know what to look out for. I'm glad your doing well too!
