Did any of you find that your progesterone use prolonged a pregnancy that wasn't viable. I'm so nervous right now and I just started progesterone, but now I'm worried that it will just give me a false sense of security and I'll just think everything is okay. Any input would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

A week ago I asked this same question. This week I was told I was miscarrying and to stop the progesterone because I wouldn't start bleeding if I didn't. I did have some bleeding the other day but it has since stopped. Two ultrasounds later it is confirmed that it isn't a viable pregnancy and I am still waiting to start bleeding.
I think that if your pregnancy isn't viable that you will know. I did. All my pregnancy symptoms disappeared about a week ago, I didn't have any cramping but deep down I felt something was wrong.
I really hope that in your case that it's just a fear and nothing more.
Good Luck. |

As well I had some bleeding while I was on the progeterone (it started as light brown streaking 3 days earlier and it went away in an hour.) Tuesday I was at the hospital with my husband for other reasons and I went to the washroom saw some more blood. Most women wouldn't have probably worried because there wasn't that much(It looked like there was more than there was) but I paniced and walked over to emerg. where I was admitted. I stop bleeding almost instaneously. I still have no cramps. My beta is still going up. I am now waiting to miscarry based on what my RE and Emerg doctors have told me. |

It was suggested that it may be because of the progesterone suppositories. My husband just called my RE's office because he was wondering the possiblity of there being a twin. They told him that there was no twin and that it's just wishful thinking. It's kind of disturbing that I have a dead fetus in me and my RE won't do anything about it for 2 weeks. |

I'm really so sorry. You'll have to keep me posted. The doubling of the beta seems odd to me...why do they think you're not still pg? Have they explained everything to you adequately?
Cheers.

My Mood: Points: 21,644.70 Bank: 3,105,323.73 Total Points: 3,126,968.43 | Em,
When I was at the hospital and they did the ultrasound they couldn't find a heartbeat and they told me the sac was implanted low in my uterus(I have no idea what this means and so far no one has been able to enlighten me.) As well my beta should have been close to 40000 was only 4700. I had ivf so I know to the minute how far along I am. Well I was measuring a few days ahead and except for not finding the hearbeat everything that should have been present was.
The following day(6 weeks exactly) when I went to my RE I was told that the gestational sac looked as though it was collasping and the fetal poll "didn't look right"(I am glad they explain themselves so well) and they still couldn't find a heartbeat. They also saw blood in my uterus. That is why I have been told that I am miscarrying. I just wish that it could be done with. It is causing more emotional distress not being able to move on. |

Points: 1,462.17 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,462.17 | hi Beetlegirl I just read your post to me in Feb Due Daters. I feel the same way as you I know the baby is in there and I still have sore BB's but I know this pregnancy is over it is so hard to know your baby is in there and not alive and you can't do anything to make this happen any faster. I can't stop crying my heart is breaking every moment for this baby. I hated the fact that I could see an otherwise healthy baby except that it wasn't in the right place. I just feel so terrible inside to know that there are plenty of ladies who never take care of themselves or don't even want their babies or abuse them I just hate it. Sorry, I'm just feeling sorry for myself I need to stop all this negative thinking. I take comfort in knowing that hopefully I'll get pregnant again but I know I'll never forget this either. If you want to email me also my email is crboo78@yahoo.com
I hope to see you again on the Pregnany Cysters board and both of our next PG's are happy and healthy.
Sorry Em I didn't mean to take over your post I wish you the best of luck and as beetlegirl said you kind of have a feeling inside that something isn't right. Iknow I did I just didn't want to believe cause I waited so long for this baby. I was on prog supps also which I even ?'d the same thing. Try to enjoy your pregnancy and I hope you have H&H 9 months.

Points: 319.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 319.00 | Em--I was on progesterone with my first pregnancy, which unfortunately was a loss. I don't think it prolonged by much, because I stopped taking it when my beta failed to double. The progesterone has no impact on the beta--the HCG is produced by the baby and the placenta. My understanding is that the progesterone helps keeps the uterine lining in good shape for pregnancy. If your pregnancy fails, the beta will drop and so will the progesterone. But here's the most important thing--THINK POSITIVE! I'm hoping your anxiety is for nothing, but I totally understand the worry!
Cici--I just wanted to let you know that I had an ectopic pregnancy dx'd in November. I'm not sure how they are treating you, but if you need someone to talk to, feel free to PM me. I remember how comforting it was to have someone to correspond with. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Points: 542.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 542.00 | Sorry to all for your loss ....I know it is horrible. I cried so hard the morning of my D&C that I had to turn around and go pick my DH up from work (after just dropping him off) b/c I was crying so hard. I was an emotional wreck.
I had a m/c back in April and was using Progesterone. I too knew something was wrong even before the u/s b/c my symptoms were going away. The baby should have been 8 weeks, but was only measuring 5w6d. I ended up having a D&C b/c I did not start m/c on my own, the progesterone contributed to that. The D&C really helped me to start to accept it and move on. As bad as this may sound, I knew our baby was gone and waiting for it to pass on it's own was too hard, I needed to have it removed, waiting for the inevitable was just too tramatic. Oddly enough, I felt a little better after the D&C....like we were progessing towards our next successful, full-term pregnancy.
Bettlegirl: I can't believe the Dr's don't have a better answer for you, especially on why the beta levels are going up when it seems like they would be going down. I am definitly intersted to see what happens, and if the RE will help at all.
***Wishes for happy healthly pregnancies****

My Mood: Points: 8,433.21 Bank: 602.11 Total Points: 9,035.32 | I definitely think the progestrone prolonged my pregnancy even though it turned out to be nonviable. I just found out yesterday and it's a crushing blow. I went in for a sono at 6w and the sac was small, so they did the beta and progestrone bloodwork. It was low. I was too scared to ask how low. They put me on progesterone and hoped for the best. A week later I had another sono. A little growth and a heartbeat. I thought the worst was over. They scheduled another sono for two weeks (that was yesterday). I had no idea anything was wrong b/c the progestrone was giving me pg sideeffects. I was so optimisitic I had my husband go to work and took my mom instead since the RE is two hours away. When they did the sono there was no growth and no heartbeat. I got the "let's go into my office and talk" line for the RE. No one has to say anything when they tell you that. It was awful to be in that office w/o my husband. I held back the tears and listened. I couldn't ask any of the questions I should have asked. I just wanted to get out of there. He said I could have a D/C but he's going on vacation. Now I have to decide on another dr. in his practice or my gyn. I guess the gyn makes more sense b/c he's closer and I at least know him. I really don't want to have the D/C but hearing all your stories of how long it could take for nature to take its course, I guess the best answer ist he D/C and have some closure. I'm sorry to go on and on, but I needed to get it all out. I'm so sorry for all your losses. I'm just thankful this list exists.
God bless you all.
