HI I posted on the new member page the other day. But anyway since reading everything I have decided to start back taking Medroxyprogesterone which the brand name is Provera. When I found out about having pcos i was the one that told my dr about it and then he said yes that is what you have. Before that he never said anything about me having it. I had a mc in 2003 what happen was after i got married i stoped taking bcp and then went 9 months without a af . I found out i was preg and mc at 3 months. at that time i changed dr and started going to my dr who i have now. he did a d&c and put me on clomid I got preg and had a little girl. everything with my preg went well then after having her i started bcp again. last year i stop taking them and af showed up only a few times. so i saw my dr in Jan. he said I could take bcp's or Provera. I dont want to take bcp's so I went with the provera. After taking it for one month i quit it made me moody. So here i am i called in and had my refill filled yesterday and took my first one yesterday.
Now i have some questions im hoping yall can help me with: 1) can you get preg taking this pill? 2) what can you tell me about the pill. 3) can you tell me how i should take this pill with my cycle? i was told to take it 18 days after the start of af. Is that right. Sorry i dont want to sound stupid but im new to all this!!

Why did your doctor prescribe provera this way? It's made to induce a period, are you not having them on your own? Lots of us here only get our Provera no sooner then every 3 months if we're not having our periods on our own.
I'm a little confused about the way it was prescribed to you, so perhaps your best bet is to call your DR and ask him about it again.

Provera isn't something you should take every day. It's usually a prescription for a certain amount of pills, and either towards the end, or a few days after the prescription ends, your period will start. Then 3-4 months later you get it again, to have another period and shed your uterine lining.
I would think you could get pregnant while taking it, if you ovulate, but that's usually after your period I think. I would avoid taking it a second time to induce another period without taking a pregnancy test (because it would probably cause a miscarriage/abortion) if you were.

Thanks Kim I have not thought about being preg. Just because I have not had a any symptons but its a really good idea to test before I get to far into my pills. I take them for 10 days and they are 10mg.

Definitely. I am going to get my dose next week and will ask for a PG test before they prescribe them to me, just in case.

It's normal cramps probably from fixing to get your period. I cramp up REALLY bad and can hardly get out of bed when I get mine. Get some Midol or Pamprin, if it's too bad, it helps a lot.
