Hey there, Does this happen to any of you? I am new to PCOS (but not customer/guest service!)
Whenever I have called in to my doctors office (OBGYN) and have a question about something with my appointment/my test results, the receptionist ALWAYS asks what the appointment was about or why I am calling... THAT I can understand, what irks me is when I inform them that I was dx'd with PCOS and that is it about that. She asks me what it is and akwardly ends that part of the conversation...
Any tips or ideas? (I don't want to tell my hubby about it yet..he may call and yell at them for being insenstive about it....)

Well, generally receptionists aren't actually trained in medical stuff... and they are usually taking detailed notes for a nurse to either tell them what to tell you on a call back or for a nurse or doctor to call you back directly, thus why they seem to ask for a lot more info than I think they need... That said, she should just be writing down "Dx with PCOS, needs lab results" or whatever it is that you are asking for. If it were me and she does it again, I would just spell out the acronym for her and and then say, can you pass my question to the nurse/doctor/some yokel that can spell PCOS (who isn't you?) so that I can get my lab results? Or something along those lines. But I am a self-admitted Be-yotch when dealing with what I think is stupidity. LOL! Dianna

You know what gets me?? I go to the OB/GYN for issues with my PCOS. They automatically assume that I'm there for a pregnancy related visit (okay...probably a natural assumption, but still). Almost alwasy (if I haven't been in a while) they'll say, "do you know when you're due?" or "so are we gonna have a baby?" Arrrggh! I mean...they're just trying to be friendly so I can't really fault them, but it just makes me so sad and irritated at the same time. I then have to sit there and explain that I'm not there because of pg, I'm there for my pcos. So frustrating..

I know EXACTLY what you mean! The last time I called in the receptionist assumed the same thing and asked if I was pregnant in a very chipper voice, when I told her that no, I wasn't she was just kinda like, "oh..."

I always speak to a nurse. Get to know your dr's nurse. I have mine's number and she takes care of everything for me. A lot of getting around dr's offices is about who you have a relationship with.
