Question about Side Effects

Hello Ladies,

I was recently dx with PCOS, but I have had IR for almost three years now. I didn't take care of it and went off and on Met. Now I am back on Met (and diedicated this time) and had a question. The last time I went on Met I had diarrhea (TMI, I know, sorry) but it went away after about four days. This time, I still have diarrhea!! I can't stay out of the bathroom!! I currently take 1500 mg. I know this is a side effect, but how long does it usually last?? Does anyone still have this side effect after several weeks, days, months??? Goodness I hope this subsides at least a little. I don't feel bad, except I can stop going to the bathroom. Can someone help please???

I just started Met this week, so I can't really answer as well as most. But I'm only taking 500mg this week then 1000mg next week and then if I handle it well I can go to 1500mg. I haven't had any of the bathroom problems people talk about, but I am taking one pill in the middle of a low carb dinner? I'm tempted to just take the whole dose now, instead of working my way up. But having read all the neg. post I'm trying to be patient.

I wonder if taking too much too soon shocks your system?

Hi Billijean,

I am not sure about it shocking your system. I think though that may be what it is. The first time I started taking Met I gradually went up. So this time I think it's going to take longer to get over the side effects. How are you doing? Are you doing the IR diet or another low carb one?

I answer to about anything so don't worry about the name.

I was strictly doing low carb, 20-30 carbs per day and i've lost about 15 lbs since the first of the year.

After my last dr. visit she told me to stay on the low carb with this medicine, but she wanted me to add some whole grain and fruit. So I'm thinking about giving the IR diet a try to get a more balanced diet. She did say I could stay on low carb a couple more months to help lose more weight. She said what I ate when I took the Met would effect me and I would need to do a trial and error approach to what I could eat and when.

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed with this Medicine.

I personally like the IR diet. It gives more variety and doesn't get rid of every carb I so dearly loved!!

I got the book at Barnes and Noble for like 14.99 and it was so worth it. It is so my handbook to eating correctly. Good Luck!!
