![]() | On Tuesday I started taking an herbal remedy that has the following in it: Black Cohosh Extract 2.5% 40mg Dong Quai Extract 150mg Rehmannia Extract 100mg Wild Yam Extract 100mg Sage Leaf Extract 100mg Vitex 50mg Ginkgo Extract 40mg Licorice Root Extract 25mg It looks as though AF will be arriving in the next couple of days (most likely due to increased glucophage dosage). Can I continue to take the herbs during AF, or should I stop? I looked on ONNA.org, and the information there says to not take any herbs days 1-5 of the cycle to let your body clean out. Any ideas? Thanks! Steph

![]() | Whether or not you choose to take herbs during AF is a personal decision. I stop taking everything except my Vitex during AF. And the only reason I keep taking it is because DH says I get b*tchy without it LOL. However, I have noticed that I bleed more when I take the vitex but that extra little symptom is far outweighed by the fact that I have less cramping and irratibility. Good luck! Andie

![]() | Andie, Thanks so much for the info. I have an additional question. Is it ok to take baby aspirin with herbs? I have some at home and am considering taking it, but I don't know about it interacting with the herbs. Steph

My Mood: ![]() | I go to a herbalist who studied for years and is ultra qualified. She says that theres no need to stop during AF. Scarlet

If you only take one then I would not be concerned but if you take many then you may want to stop while you are bleeding as dong quai can increase bleeding. As long as the quantity of dong quai is small then I would not worry about it. As Andie said it is a personal decision. I would keep an eye on the bleeding though and if you notice a problem you can stop. Sheri |

![]() | Sheri, I take two of the capsules a day, so that would be 300mg of Dong Quai a day. I will not take the aspirin, since the Dong Quai is a blood thinner. My herbalist did not say anything about laying off the herbs during menses, but I forgot to ask him, and he is not in the office today. So, you think it's ok to take them throughout the cycle, just don't take the baby aspirin? Thanks! Steph
