Default question about weight gain and loss

Ok, I had been having problems for quite some time, in fact since my 2nd baby and possibly before then. Anyway, I gained like 40lbs in just 3 months for no reason. I wasn't dxd until some months later with hypothyroid. I have been taking synthroid for 9 months now and have been at 200mcg daily for 5 months. I still have yet to lose any of the weight I gained. Plus, I think I have actually gained a pound or 2. Anyone had this problem and was able to get the weight back off? It is frustrating. I worked hard to lose 90lbs since just before my pg with baby 1 and was feeling great after baby 2 when I was still down in size. It totally depresses me. I still feel like the meds really are not working, but I know that they are since I went from 60+ to .7 on my blood work.

Any encouraging stories???

I think we're twins! I gained 45 pounds in three months, but it was due to switching to a new brand of thyroid supplement and was given way too low of a dosage. I found out that my TSH was over 20.0 for most of those three months- that was considered "severe hypothyroidism" by the doctor.

Anyhoo, three years later, and I haven't lost a dang pound. The problem with getting your levels to where they're supposed to be is that you're not going to magically lose the weight you put on...just because you're now properly metabolizing your caloric intake doesn't mean you're going to metabolize more than before to burn the extra pounds. My experience has been that only diet and exercise will make your body shed the weight. However, once you get your hypothyroidism under control with medication, you'll actually feel well enough to start an exercise regime!

Wish I had better news, but it can be done! Good luck and let us know how everything turns out. :-)

Thanks for the reply. I figured that since I still am not eating as much as I was before the problems started that just maybe the pounds would come off slowly, even a pound a month would make me feel better. I still don't have much of an appetite. I actually should be eating more. Hopefully summer coming soon will help. Also, I am getting a lot more activity than I did the entire last year. I was so ill that I didn't do much of anything, but didn't gain the weight then, it was before. Now I am up and going everyday. I work part time and runs errands. It wears me out so quickly do to not doing much for over a year. But, I guess.....hope you get your weight back off too. thanks again.
