Default Question to all

How many miscarriages have you had with pCOS?

I had a m/c in Janurary. I was diagnosed with PCOS last Friday.

I got pregnant my first month off BCP's..

My OB doesn't know for sure what caused the m/c, I also had a 8 cm cyst in my fallipoan tube. She said it could have been the cysts, bcp's- anything...

Tabatha,
I'm sorry that you've had to join us over here. Many of the cysters here only have one loss, so don't give up hope about a sticky baby, okay? I have had a second trimester neonatal loss as well as a very early m/c. Each of us has her own story. I hope yours is short!
I wish you peace as you heal,
Sheri

I don't know how I can face that I still have a 60% chance of miscarring again.. Thats a lot to handle... I hope glucophage really does prevent miscarriages.. I can't handle having anymore m/cs..I just can't face that..

Default sorry for you

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I just had my miscarriage of identicle twins on Tuesday. That was my 2nd miscarriage in 3 yrs. I thought I would never have a misscarriage but things happen. I personally getting tired of people telling me that it was ment to be. I hope you don't have to go through that. I am having delayed greiving. I am now starting to feel sad about it.

But any way the docs don't know if my miscarriges are from pcos, the blood disorder that I have or it was something else. I feel sorry that you have to go through this. hope everything goes well for you. Did everything come out by it self? do you need a d&c?

Hi Tabatha,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you found this board though. I just joined the board and posted my first message yesterday. Everyone here has been really supportive.
I suffered two 2nd trimester miscarriages one in June 2004 and another in February 2005.
I had been to several Dr.s over the years trying to figure out what was wrong with me, only to be told that my hairyness was genetic, my acne was normal and would go away, and I needed to lose weight then my periods would get better, and given an Rx for BCP. I wasn't trying to get pg at that time. No diagnosis of PCOS, even though I clearly had the symptoms. I starved myself and lost some weight.
When I decided to try getting pg, I explained all this to my new DH he wanted to try anyway. I went off the pill in January 04 and I got pg in Feb.04. After the m/c I got pg again in Oct.04.
I was just diagnosed on Feb.18th with PCOS. I cried so hard, finally somebody was confirming my suspicions. Now, this Dr. is doing lots of tests to figure out what we should do next.

I had a natural m/c I was only 5 weeks..It happened fast.. I woke up on 1-26-05, and had one big strong cramp, starting spotting blood, and so I went to the OB. They did a vaginal sonogram and nothing was there and my blood level was below 2.. The week before my blood level was 108.

My doctor doesn't know what caused me m/c either. I also had a 8 cm cyst in my right falliopan tube that I had removed on feb 18th.

I see a midwife and a OB.. The OB did the surgery and said everything looked great, seen no reason for me to not have a healthy pregnancy.

But I've been having pelvic pain since July '04. 4 doctors said it was a pulled muscle. But the pain never left, so I figured it was from the 8 cm cyst. But once the cyst was gone I was still hurting.
So I went back to see the midwife- she diagnosed me with PCOS, and never run tests, she just looked at my sonograms. I didn't know I had more than one cyst, no one ever told me. I've had numerous sonograms not to mention they did laparoscopy and me and never said anything..

The only symptom I have of PCOS is pelvic pain, and more than one cyst on my ovary.. But DUH! The cysts could cause my pelvic to hurt. I don't have alot of cyst, I think I have 4 on each ovary, that I seen on the sonogram.. I don't know if I have pCOS or not, thats what the midwife says I have.
Can you have more than one cyst and not have PCOS?

Sorry for your loss.

I had a m/c at 7 weeks in Dec 2002, I had only recently started met and figured it just hadn't worked yet as why I m/c.

I got PG with DS on met and clomid about 6 months later.

We've been TTC #2 for 7 months, again, met and clomid. In Dec I had an early m/c at 5 weeks. That really bummed me out since I was on the met since August. I had originally blamed not being on met for my 1st m/c, and this time it didn't matter.

The chance of m/c for anyone, even non-PCOS is 25%, most women don't even know they m/c, just think it is late AF. A great majority of m/c is chromosomal problems, unfortunately we can't prevent them all.

Have you had any blood tests for PCOS (checking LH/FSH????). Cysts on the ovaries aren't a definate diagnosis.

Kim

No, after she told me I had PCOS, and gave me a pamplet on it, she did blood work to check my kidney's and liver after she told me I had PCOS, and she never told me what the results were.

I also went back that day to get the OKAy to start TTC again aftre my m/c and the laparoscopy, she said I could start TTC again. SO I am, I am in my 2 ww.. Tomorrow will make a week I been on glucophage, so basically if I do have PCOS like she says I do, the glucophage won't do much good for me if I do get pregnant this month.. Only God can help us women.. God holds all the answers.

I go back in April for a check-up.. I'm going to ask her why she idn't do more blood work to diagnose me.. I mean its fine to say I have pCOS if I do have it, but to tell me I do have it, and I don't kinda makes me mad, because I have been worrying a lot about this.. a 60% chance of a m/c is awful, and I already had one..

she told me I wouldn't have any trouble getting pregnant, and I told her I knew a lot of people with PCOS, who never get pregnant. She said "Nahhh, not you".. Then my OB tell me I'm healthy.

I can live with the pelvic pain, but I can't live with the fact that I'm at high risk for a m/c..
The biggest fear when I was younger was not being able to have kids when I got older. This is so hard facing that I have PCOS (whether I do or not)..
I have noticed that since I started the glucophage- that my pelvic doesn't hurt as much..

I dunno, I'm just scared and confused right now. PCOS is hard to accept.

I have had 3 miscarriages in the past 7 months. The last 2 miscarriages both happened really early, at exactly 18 DPO. One of them just happened on Sunday. We also suspect I got PG during January, but that was never confirmed with a positive blood or home test.

I have to say with each miscarriage, it gets a little easier. That's so sad to say. It appears we can conceive very easily - after 1 or 2 months of trying, if I'm on both Metformin and Clomid.

I am getting "repeat loss testing" done next month - my doc suspects an autoimmune disorder. Hopefully it will be treatable.

I conceived easily too... I just went off BCP"s and got pregnant...
They don't know why I had a m/c.. Could have been anything.. I pray to God above I never have to go through another m/c .

I am sorry about your loss. I have had two miscarriages before I was blessed with Colin. For us the saying "three times is the charm" applied to us. The first two pregnancies as soon as I got pg my RE would have me stop taking Met. When I got pg with Colin she said to stay on it. I stayed on it until I was 16 wks pg. She wanted me to stop at 12 wks, but I was to scared to. Good luck to you.

Unhappy Sorry!

I hate it when someone new needs to join our unhappy club. I had a second-trimester loss, so I can't help with the MC question.

I know that this is the hardest thing any of us will ever have to live through. I'm so glad to have everyone here as a support system. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have, and to vent whenever you need to. Unfortunately, we all understand.

hi ladies! first, I am sorry for all your loses. I know that whatever I say can't make it any better, I know because this is what i feel right now. I just had a m/c yesterday. It's my first pregnancy thanks to Clomid and IUI. I was diagnosed also with PCOS 3 years ago. Anyway, my doctor said, we can start trying again but I am just too devastated to even try. I read somewhere that women suffering from PCOS have a greater miscarriage rate than normal women. This is because our eggs are unhealthy because of producting too much LH. So, the egg becomes overripe. I don't know if this is true because my doctor never told me, most of the time she was pretty hopeful about my situation. I am hoping one day for a successful pregnancy.

Unhappy Not what my doc told me.

"I read somewhere that women suffering from PCOS have a greater miscarriage rate than normal women. This is because our eggs are unhealthy because of producting too much LH."

First, I'm very, very sorry you had to join us here. I wish we could close down this club!

We do have a higher risk of MC and preterm labor, but my doc told me that low progesterone in the first trimester is the most common cause of MC in cysters. This makes sense, since our progesterone is usually low to start with. When I was pregnant, I took a progesterone supplement that provided the correct amount of progesterone until the placenta was formed and working to make its own progesterone (usually by week 10). Lots of us have to do this, but it works.

What you read has me concerned, because if it were true, since LH is difficult to control, few of us could have successful pregnancies, and many of us do. Ask your doc what s/he thinks is the cause in YOUR case, and go from there. At a minimum, if/when you get pregnant again, have your progesterone checked when they first do the HCG blood test. If it comes back low, insist on progesterone supplementation.

hi viv! i read that on some internet website about PCO. Anyway, I will be seeing an endocronologist tomorrow to check my bloodwork. My ob just d/x me with PCO because I had cyst on my ovaries but i usually have me period every month. There are some months that my ovaries are normal in size (according to u/s). My Ob put me on met but I want to get a second opinion.

I will find out the cause of my m/c tuesday next week. by that time, hopefully, we'd know our next steps.
