My boyfriend is going in for Gastric Bypass Surgery next week, and he told me that I should get it, or lose weight and it will reverse PCOS. So is that true? can losing a ton of weight reverse PCOS? I'm sick of feeling this way without a period, and with the facial hair, and the inability to get pregnant at the moment. If anyone knows the answer to this please let me know thanks.

PCOS can be caused by weight gain, or it can cause one to gain weight, so if one is able to lose weight (regardless of the cause), the PCOS symptoms will be reversed.

Very interesting information. However, I don't think that weight loss is the cure for everyone. There are thin cysters with the syndrome. I have had PCOS since adolescence and have only had the weight problems since age
30. I have always had the androgen related problems regardless of my weight. Of course, weight-loss is good for general health and reduction of risk factors related to obesity even if it doesn't cure the PCOS.

Yes, that is true, BUT if you lose weight, it is more LIKELY to get rid of the symptoms. You still need to do it in a healthy way, and if you are thin already, improving your diet is a good way to help with the symptoms (chemicals in processed foods are often linked to PCOS problems).
Here is a really good book that has excellent suggestions about how to improve your diet to gain health, and if you need to lose weight, you will, but you will be a healthier person either way. http://www.ovarian-cysts-pcos.com/pcos-book-res.html

I have to agree with you. In fact, after I lost 50 pounds, that when the PCOS symptoms were the worst. That was before I knew I had PCOS and what PCOS was, but that's when my whole body went haywire. I still do not understand why that happened.

Good luck to your boyfriend with the surgery and too you too if you decide to do it. My Aunt just went for it last Tuesday, and came home Friday. She is doing great. I can't wait to see her in a couple months from now.
Again BEST WISHES TO BOTH OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
