Question Question concerning body aches-

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in May of this year and have been on Synthroid100mcg/daily ever since. My most recent TSH was 3.7 (down from 65) and I do feel less fatigued, thankfully. But I still get joint aches and muscle aches frequently. I tend to blame it on my daughter (she just turned one and still wakes during the night) but I wonder if it's something else. Also, I'm still losing hair and it looks thinner to me although I don't see any bald patches. My Endo feels I need to give the Synthroid more time and that the symptoms will eventually stop. Any comments/insight on this? Thanks so much.

I would suggest getting your iron (ferritin to be precise) levels checked. Low iron will cause fatigue, joint/muscle aches, and hair falling out. It tends to go with hypothyroidism as well. Low iron will cause you not to be able to utilize your thyroid medication as well as you could.

Hair also goes in 3-6 month cycles of growth. So it's possible that what you're experiencing is breakage of hair that grew in brittle while you were hypo, and now that you're recovering, stronger hair is growing in and breaking off at the brittle parts.

Also, your TSH should be under 2 in order to feel best, usually.
