I don't know if this is the right place for this question but I wanted it to be seen and I didn't know where else to put it. Ok, this is kind of a strange question but it's something I'm really worried about. I'm starting school this week and I'm terrified that I won't be able to fit in the student desks. I'm about 280 pounds and I know those desks are rather small. Do any of you who are in school and large have trouble fitting into the classroom desks? I don't want them to have to bring in a special desk or table for me. That would be mortifying. Thanks.

Hi Mandi. First off, great job going back to school! I weighed about 300 lbs when I was a senior in college, and I never had a problem fitting in the desks. I wasn't always comfortable, but I could always at least squeeze myself in. A lot of classrooms these days also have tables and chairs instead of desks, especially for adult education. Good luck!

You'll be fine. I weigh 280 and I fit sometimes snugly but not overly uncomfortable, a lot of times they have different sized chairs and desks, and some have tables and chairs. If you are that nervous about it I would say go visit the school and take a look around maybe get rid of some anxiety Take a friend. Good luck.

most of the college classrooms (all 3 diff ones I've seen around here, lol) have table and chairs. Most adults don't feel comfortable in the desk/chair combo, so they are kinda of rare in adult education classrooms.

When I was in high school (which was only about 5 years ago), I was around 350 pounds and fit into the desk/chair combos. Now, it wasn't the most comfortable place to sit, but I did fit. I agree with the previous poster that desk/chair combos are not as common in a college setting. In fact, I never saw one while I was in college.

I'm in college too, and most of the time they have at least a few chair/table combos. In my math class last semester, I jokingly told the people around me I needed the "big girl" chair, and they were very nice about letting me have it. I can fit in the combo desks, but I hate them because you can't open your book and notebook on that tiny little piece of wood! I start tomorrow-when is your first day?
I've been to a university and state college. The chair/table combo are in the majority of classrooms. Each classroom does have at least a table for the handicapped with separate chairs. I have not had any problems with the chair/table combo (I weigh about 250). It is a tight squeeze.
The biggest problems I've had are in the large lecture halls where they have built in chair/table combos. those are so tiny and I find the little table resting on my stomach instead of the armrest.
