Question dealing with that famous premie baby girl
I was looking up that miracle baby born early and i found out she was under 10oz and under 9 inches long. I know i'm not supposed to do this but i can't help but wonder about my baby. Was the miracle baby really that developed?? i know she was in her mommy longer than my baby but my baby was longer and weighed more. Does that have anything to do with it or is it just because she was born a week and 6days later than my baby. My baby was born 20wks one day and that baby was 21wks and 6 days. I know i can't change what happened and i can't bring her back, should i just give this up and not worry about it?? I'm really just curious if it has to do with age or the weight of the baby?

Well not to sound cliche but size isn't everything. You can have an 8 pound baby who isn't doing well and a 5 pound baby who is.
FWIW I have heard/read that this miracle preemie story has been grossly exaggerated. Most pregnancies are counted in weeks from last menstrual period, making the baby in question 2 weeks younger than people are saying. Ie if you are 10 weeks pregnant, your baby was conceived 8 weeks ago. So this baby is being touted as 21 weeks and 6 days... but this is SINCE CONCEPTION meaning she was really 23 weeks and 6 days which makes quite a difference. Every day makes a difference in a preemie so 1w6d between that baby and your baby is a big difference... and if it was really 3w6d that's a HUGE difference. There would be so much more organ development.
If you google, you can find various sources claiming she was born 21w6d after IVF conception... this is just the first hit.

thanks i think i just needed someone else to tell me, and make me realize that there wasn't anything the doctors could do to help my baby. I have a million what ifs running thru my mind so i need someone from the outside to tell me those are not possible. Thank you

(((Hugs))) It is really rough to know that some kids the exact same gestational age as my little one have grown into healthy kids without disabilities. I have had to deal with that from the beginning, but the fact remains that only about ten percent at 23 weeks even survive, and among those little rare ones, most have serious problems. Times will change, and more second trimester loss moms like yourself will be feeling that sting as well. "If only she'd been born now instead" etc.... It sucks all the way around. But I can only hope that as technology improves to help these tiniest of babies to survive outside of Mom, other medical advances will develop to help keep them inside longer!
I'm sorry this early stage is so very hard. We'll be here to listen if you just want to vent about it, too.
Thanks RD for the info... I had only known about the 21 week thing, not the "from conception" part. I knew she was IVF, but I thought that meant they knew what they were saying. *rolling eyes*

Sabrina,
I'm so sorry for what you've been through. My most recent loss happened right around the time that "miracle" baby was born. I asked those same questions. Someone fromt he hospital staff told me exactly what Runner Duck already said. I'm sorry you too were mislead by the news reports.
