Hi everyone... quick question: has anyone had any luck finding a 'perforated condom' for semen collection? My doctor doesn't have them and has suggested just poking a hole in the collection condom but I'd rather get a real one. I also haven't had any luck finding one online. And Christopher West mentions obtaining one from the Pope Paul VI institute but their website didn't have any info... Any ideas? Thanks!

A perforated condom lets some of the sperm through but still holds most of it... thats because the only way we can produce a sample is through an act of intercourse that is unitive and also procreative.

Actually I've never heard of that, but I'm not sexually active so... But it makes sense.
Did you try emailing someone from the Pope Paul VI institute? Also google the Catholic Medical Association. You'll find someone there to contact or a chapter in your area that can set you up.

I am not catholic and I didn't even know what a perforated condom was until this post, but I want to be helpful so I did A LOT of searching and found something at the CANFP website. this is the answer to a faq that was posted asking where to purchase a perforated condom. HTH

No, we do not sell perforated condoms, and neither does anyone else, as far as I am aware. To my knowledge, there is no such "product" as perforated condoms. To obtain a sperm sample in the manner you desire, what is generally done is a condom is purchased which is not treated with any spermicides or chemicals---these are sometimes referred to as "medical condoms". Then the USER perforates the condom, simply by penetrating it with a sterile needle, at the tip of the condom. Thus, the contraceptive effect of the condom is invalidated, but sufficient seminal fluid is contained for analysis.

This is one morally permissible way to obtain a sample for seminal fluid analysis. Another is for the gentleman to touch the tip of the penis to a slide, immediately following relations, and then placing a cover slip over it, and delivering to the physician or lab for analysis in this manner. This will not allow as complete an analysis, but is usually sufficient to determine the presence of motile, healthy sperm.

Thank you everyone for your research for me! I called the Pope Paul VI Institute today and they said the same thing about piercing the tip on the condom with a sterile needle. So DH and I have a date for bright and early Friday morning and then I have to go drop off the sample and then wait for AF so I can start clomid!
