Default Question: Please Help

Hi

For a person without PCOS, how long after they stop the BCP should they get their period? Should they get their period within a month or does it take longer, say 3 to 4 months?

Thanks

It can take your body a few months to get back to normal after being on the pill. I know when I went off the pill, the first three months my body responded like I was still on the pill. Then my periods started getting further and further apart - for me the first signs of PCOS.

I'd give it 3 or 4 months and see what happens.

Yes, as Melee18 says, it can take a few months for your ovaries to get used to "managing themselves" so often it takes around 3 months to get a regular cycle back for those with or without PCOS. When my PCOS was bad (pre and after dx) I went 6/7 months without a period once I'd stopped bcp to see if my body would just work it out naturally. By that time I was in immense pain and had follicles on my ovaries, ready to turn into cysts, therefore was in great need of a bcp to sort me out. Before that I had Provera tablets to induce a bleed.

I'd say that if it gets past 4 months with no period, one must speak to a doctor and discuss options.

xx
