Hi, welcome to SC. As you've probably read, the best doc to see is an endocrinologist. Most GP & ob/gyn's don't know enough about PCOS to properly treat it. So, my first suggestion is to see an endo.
To be diagnosed, you must meet 2 criteria: (1) have abnormal menses and (2) at least one sign of hyperandrogenism (acne, male pattern baldness, hair thinning/loss, etc).
Are you trying to get pregnant? In most cases patients have the following done: physical/internal exam, ultrasound (usually vaginal), blood work & HSG (checks to see if your fallopian tubes are free from blockage).
