I have a question!! My friend was suppose to be indused on the 11th. She has 2 boys now. This would have been their 3rd child. Well she has miscarried before and had alot of problems with her 1st and 2nd pregnancies. Well she developed GD and that caused alot of problems. Anyway, she had to be indused early, and when the baby was born the cord was wrapped around his neck like 3 times, and he had a BM while in the womb, and the credited that and the cord for his cause of death. They had just done an ultrasound on her and everything was fine. She was over due, and the baby was suppose to weight around 8 lbs. Why didn't the Dr go ahead and induse her earlier?? Her due date was past, and she had GD and come to find out the baby weighted 10lbs. How can the Dr. be 2 lbs off?? The Dr knew she was high risk due to her other problems from her previous pregnancies. Why didn't he just do a c section??

That's horrible I'm so sorry for your friend. I don't understand why they didn't induce earlier. Some women complain about being induced too early and ending up with c-sections, so I think they might try to avoid doing it early. I dunno.. that's just a guess. As for being two pounds off, those measurements that they do at or near term are notoriously inaccurate. They make a guesstimate and go from there.
That late in a pregnancy, it's no longer called a miscarriage. It's a stillbirth May God give you and your friend's family comfort during this extremely difficult time....

All of these questions come up after a loss... lots of whys. I assume that they didn't see that cord around the baby's neck in the sonogram. If they had, they would have suggested a c section. When the kid is near the due date, though, it's really crowded in there, so the view isn't good. It's very difficult to estimate weight for the same reason. That being said, there are babies born with all of the same symptoms and who turn out fine in the end... it's just different for each case. It sounds like the poor little guy strangled in there. It's called a "cord accident" when the baby dies for such reasons. One of the gals in my support group had a similar situation, but it happened around five weeks before her due date. So it can happen anytime late in pregnancy, not just the very end.
I'm so sorry.

I'm just shaking my head...its so senseless!!! Hopefully your friend realizes what support and comfort you can be to her...but unfortunately the shock and numbness have to wear off first thats when she'll need you the most...
I also have a friend who lost her baby at birth because they induced and the cord was wrapped around his head. It just happened a couple of months ago, they rushed her for a C-Section but due to hospital mistakes they didn't get it done in time to save his life.
Now if your friends baby died before the birth and not while its very common that they will induce instead of doing a C-Section, I am not sure I know why they do this.
