Just wondering if anyone has used the drug for treatment. I know it is a weight loss medication but am thinking of discussing the use of the drug to treat my PCOS with my dr. since I don't seem to be responsive to metformin.
Anyone use it for PCOS?
How did you convince your dr. to give it to your for PCOS reasons?
Does anyone have any other info about the study?
Anyone that is using it for PCOS...have you had any success with the med?
Are you using metformin with Orlistat or by itself.
TIA! |

I was prescribed it by my Endo about a year ago. It forces you to eat super low fat which is surprisingly easy. I didn't have any side effects which is a huge deal for me. I was terrified about it since I've read all of the horrible gastro problems it can cause and because I get sife effects from everything.
I was on it for about a month and lost 5 or 6 pounds. I came off of it when Glumetza was released in Canada. I can't handle regular Met so I was just waiting for the extended release version.
I would be very, very scared to take it with Met. The side effects could be awful. I'm a chicken!

Thanks for the info Sandra.
I am going to call my dr. tomorrow and make an appointment to see her regarding Xenical. I already eat pretty low fat because my dh has heart disease so I hope the side effects aren't too bad with metformin.
I am so happy that my dr. put me on Synthroid...it has made a world of difference.
I just hope that she is as understanding when I approach her regarding the subject of a diet pill. |

So the Synthroid is helping? That's so awesome.
Good luck!

The dr. I work for was looking at my blood work the other day & made a comment about me being borderline hypo...if only he would have been able to treat it when no one else would. |

I took Xenical for a couple of months before getting pregnant. It actually helps in loosing weight. Although I had one side effect which I would not consider very bad. it give super greasy stools if you take in a lot of fat. It actually doesn't let your body absorb the fat you eat (if you eat any) The pharmacist had shown me what it actually does. It makes a coating over the body's fat which does not allow any extra fat to accumulate with every food intake so when the body needs energy the existing fat is utilized and not the new one.

Do you know how it effected your testosterone levels? My levels are 3 times the normal level for an average male. I am hoping that if the study is right that they may be decreased. |

My Mood: Points: 1,422.91 Bank: 0.01 Total Points: 1,422.92 | I took Xenical for weight loss before I was diagnosed with PCOS and only stuck with it for a couple of weeks, it was awful. TMI, but it can cause anal leakage, ie; if you pass wind, you also pass bright orange gross smelling fatty liquid.
I want to try Reductil, but GP is reluctant as I have a history of depression (most cos I'm overweight, but hey!) I now take Met, haven't lost weight but have lost inches, is that normal or just me being weird?

I can so see that happening when I wear white pants.
I think I may still give it a try.
If it helps with testosterone levels for me...it is definately worth a try. |

I showed her the study & she pointed out that I won't ovulate(which I knew) but gave me a script anyways. She was very much interested in the info....she wanted to keep it for her files.
I'll be filling the prescription tomorrow & look forward to seeing if it works.

Thanks!

It does give you super greasy stool, with the most horrible stink and you wipe and wipe and it's still greasy. It even comes out if you pass gas. I felt terrible on the stuff and quit taking it. I didn't think I was eating fatty foods, I was going to subway... but maybe my body just reacted to it too much.
