Default Question/ Testing insulin levels

Good morning all! Last month, when I went in for my primary bloodwork, they asked me to fast for 8 hours before having the blood drawn. My glucose level came back at 110, and my insulin level came back at 32. If I hadn't been fasting, would my insulin level have been even higher than that? Are you supposed to fast before the insulin test? Also, is 32 very high? My family doctor said anything over 27 was considered too high and would be treated accordingly. Thanks for helping a newbie get educated faster!!! Kathy

Wow! You're right, 32 is high--VERY high. Now you know why it's wrong to test glucose alone--your value of 110 is not super-high (although it might be "borderline"). I don't know if your insulin would have been higher if you hadn't been fasting--perhaps it would. Just to put your mind at ease, you *are* supposed to fast before getting an insulin test. Around these boards, most people say that a fasting insulin value over 12 means trouble.

Wow is right!! You told me exactly what I was wanting to know. Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to the day when my system comes back to normal... I have already seen a marked improvement in my mood swings from being on Met for a month. Unfortunately, the Clomid I started this week isn't helping my BBT any. My temps are all over the chart and I'm only on day 9. Doesn't bode well for ovulation this month I guess. With this being my first month on Clomid-- I have no idea when I should start testing with the ovulation kit. Any ideas? Kathy
