I'm not sure if I have ever had bw for my thyroid, it seems like all they do is check my thyroid w/their fingers & because there's nothing there they just dismiss the fact that it could be my thyroid. So, my question is do you have to have a knot or whatever on your thyroid in order to have thyroid problems? I looked at the symptoms of thyroid problems & I have about 6 of the symptoms. So, I'm not sure if I should proceed to see an endocrinologist or not. Thanks!

I've never had anyone check my thyroid for knots or anything. If you have the symptoms, it's definitely worth checking out. It doesn't have to be an endocrinologist though; your regular doc should be able to check it with the blood test.

Sounds like a familiar story to me. All of the Dr.s I went to did the same thing. I couldn't get diagnosed until I went to a Naturopathy. You know your body better then anyone else does, so keep going until you find a DR. that will listen to you...

You don't need a lump on your thyroid to have problems. Symptoms of PCOS and thyroid issues often overlap so it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint the culprit. If you feel bad, something is not right! It may be helpful for you to request for your doctor to run a panel of thyroid tests to see if that is the problem. If s/he still isn't helpful or refuses to run the tests, you may want to look into finding a new doctor...one that will work with you! If you thyroid panel comes back abnormal, then it would be time to see and endocrinologist.
Good luck!

Michelle I would ask you dr to do blood work. I had a dr do mine and I was borderline when she ran test. When I went to the endo the following week and had bw it was hypo.

Definitely either force your dr. to do the bloodwork, or find a different doc. Also, make sure you have all of it tested, not just the TSH. For me, my TSH can be normal, but my T3 and T4 out of whack. It takes a lot of play to get all of my levels in balance. I am a little different than most with thyroid issues. I was born with a completely non-functioning thyroid gland. It's there, undersized, and does not work at all. I have been on Synthroid since I was 10 days old. My dose now is .275mg daily, but I have been as high as .350.
My thyroid has never 'appeared' swollen or knotty to anyone who's ever touched it. Regardless, I've always had whacky bloodwork, sometimes seriously whacky, and hello... I've been on treatment for a few years now with success.
