Question Questioning diagnosis (or lack thereof...)

Hi ladies,

I have a question for you...I'm thinking I may not have the brightest light bulb of a OBGYN...

I've been on Metformin since December 23, 2007 when my doc said I had diabetes. She suspected (STRONGLY!) PCOS too so started me on Met.

I saw a fertility specialist who ordered more testing for PCOS (testosterone levels and pelvic ultrasound) which I had done last month (end of May, 2008). Test came out normal - doc said I 100% do NOT have PCOS.

Results have been bothering me - I'm a week late on menses (normally extremely heavy, but at a consistent time). Pregnancy suspected (I'm HOPING and PRAYING!!).

My question: If I had been on Metformin for 6 months, wouldn't my testosterone and pelvic ultrasound likely come out normal? I'm thinking it would, and if so, why in the world would my obgyn have said with 100% I do not have PCOS (obviously I'm not looking for an answer for that one..haha).

What do you ladies think?

Thanks!

Zeb

PS - I'm going to wait a few more days before taking a preg. test - probably on July 1.

I also have all the symptoms of PCOS, I had lab work done and all the levels came back normal.

They have also tested my thyroid, nothing. I have been on metformin for the las year due to being a diabetic do. I wonder if is possible that the metfomin has made my hormone levels right.

I'm waiting to have the ultrasound to see if there is cysts in my ovaries. Time will tell I guess.

My ultrasound came back normal. My doc finally got back to me (but not the OBgyn) - she said they WOULD come back normal if I was on Metformin. I'm pretty p'od at my obgyn for putting me through the ultrasound - what an icky proceedure! I think I'll be calling that office back again today and giving them a piece of my mind!!! (by the way - this is a "top" fertility specialist, not a regular OBgyn, so she SHOULD have known!!)
