Hello to everyone out there. My name is Sarah Mills and I'm 26 years old living in Michigan. I just found out yesterday that I have PCOS and I have so many questions. My doctor wasn't very helpful at all. Just told me I had it and then left. My husband and I were thinking of starting a family soon and I'm really curious to see if this affect my fertility. Will we have problems conceiving? Female problems run very high in my family, my sister is only 30 and has already had a complete hysterectomy. My husband and I discussed it last night and said that I would get on a birth control pill for treatment, but I'm wondering if we shouldn't put it off. I don't want to wait and then find out I can't get pregnant. I've never even heard of this disease. I'm also worried about having multiple births because of the fertility issues. It's really weird for me to think that the one thing my body is supposed to do as a female it isn't doing. Am I the only one to feel this way? Less of a woman?
Welcome Sarah, glad you found SC! There is a wealth of information here. I would say that if your doc isn't doing anything to help you, find a different one. You may want to speak with an endocrinologist. It seams that a lot of gynos don't really know a whole lot about dx'ing or treating pcos, at least in my case. You def. want a doc that understands your concerns and will work with you. Check out this site, and you will see that there are many success stories about having babies. Women w/ this may have a harder time, but it can still happen.

Can't wait to start WW again and loose the other 15lbs I gained with the last pregnancy and the 30lbs I still needed to lose with the first one.

Some women have no problems conceiving while others have much difficulty. I think it is important that you get treatment for PCOS as soon as you find out you have it. Birth control pills may not be enough to help with furture fertility issues. In fact many women find that their symptoms are worse once they go off. This is because BCP can mask PCOS symptoms. Some of the things you can do to help is change your diet and possibly take a drug like metformin. Low carb diets help out a lot of women with PCOS. I credit my change to a low carb lifestyle for helping me have my son, Jamie. There is a lot of information on here that can help you on your journey. Good luck!
Welcome to SoulCysters, trust me, you aren't alone, I feel like "less of a woman" all the time because my body doesn't work the way it should. If you wanna talk, just send me a message. Good Luck and BabyDust to you

Welcome to SC. You are definately not alone.
One of your first steps should be finding a doc that is knowlegable in PCOS,then learn as much as you can yourself so you can be proactive in your treatment!!
There is a ton of great info here and a lot of cysters that can help with questions!!!
Welcome! You have a lot of really great questions, the good new is that you've come to the right place to get them answered. I would personally reccomend against BCP, but that's me. In my experience they hinder more than help. The honest truth is that you may have problems conceiving, you may not. A friend of mine with pcos (not on this board) was told that she would have problems conceiving so she started trying right away. Her son was born 9 months later. Other women aren't so fortunate. There is really no way to know until you try. I hope you find the answers you need,
Amber
