Points: 1,774.76 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,774.76 | Questions Hello I am new here. I am 16 years old and I just went to my doctor and found out that I have several cysts on my right ovarie ranging from 1-2 inches each. My doctor says that it is probably PCOS, but she wants to do more tests to be positive. I have read some thing about PCOS, like symptoms and treatment, but I was wondering what kind of surgerys they had? Do they have any? Is that better then taking drugs? Will it get rid of the cysts all together and they wont come back? I really dont know much about all of this and any information would be great.
What would birth control do for me?
Thank you

My Mood: Points: 24,534.71 Bank: 4,949,014.70 Total Points: 4,973,549.41 | I've had 2 laparoscopies done. 1st one when I was 19. They didn't find anything wrong. Then had the 2nd last year. (I'm 25 now) There were multiple cysts. My doc removed them and did ovarian drilling. I wouldn't really suggest surgery though. It didn't help me too much. The cysts came back within about a year. Bcp's are supposed to help regulate you if your periods are irregular. Sometimes docs believe that it will help w/ other symptoms as well. I've been on bcps since I was 16 with 2yrs off when I didn't have insurance. It didn't really help besides getting me regular, and even sometimes that didn't happen. I've recently been put on Met and believe that's helping more than the bcps. It's supposed to help reduce the cysts. I haven't had an u/s since starting Met, but have noticed my pain being less. I'm not sure though if docs rx Met for younger girls though. It's something to ask your doc about. Hope this helps some. Just do as much research as possible and look around on this board. There's so much information here that I wish I would have received when I was younger. Take care of yourself!

I am sure that surgery will get rid of the cysts, but it will not get rid of the PCOS all together you will still have the symptoms, and probably have to take medication in the end anyways from what I know. Are you on any medications right now??? I am 16 as well and was dx'd in 05, also I am taking Glucophage.. Also you might want to see an endo. Hope I have helped out get back to me! |
