Hi! I am only 19 years old, yet my hairloss is horrible! I am taking Met right now which isn't helping me out at all, but I had some questions. I was wondering if anyone uses like a special shampoo or anything that makes their hair grow or at least appear to be thicker. Also, is there a certain vitamin that is for hair growth? I have an appointment to see my endo again in October and she said that if it isn't any better she would send me to a dermatologist--will that really help? Anyways, my hairloss has kind of lowered my self-esteem and I have started wearing my hair up to make it look better--so I was just wondering if anyone had any reasonable suggestions that I could actually follow! Thanks so much!!
Definitely check out the 'stickies' at the top of this thread first.
Some of use over-the-counter shampoos that may help in the early stages (Nizoral, Nixon, and Murad all have their own followers).
Biotin (otc dietary supplement) is recommended by many, and there is an oil one of the ladies here blends and sells for a reasonable price.
There's no magic solution for all, however.... sorry.

I am sorry to be a bearer of bad news but Nizoral (yes I have used it) or any other shampoo is NOT going to halt the hair loss as this is coming from witin .. you need to control the hair loss by treating the endocrine disorder which PCOS is ... I would highly suggest going to see an endocrinologist who can then recommend the relevant treatments

Hiya, I started thinning when I was around 22, i'm now 27 and have male-pattern baldness which has lowered my self esteem/confidence to the point that I wear fashion hats when going places.. around 3 months ago I started researching alternative therapies and for the last 3 months have taken 500mg cap of evening primrose oil along with a b complex vitamin and use an essential oil blend on my scalp nightly..... I can honestly say that not only did the shedding cease after a month but I have tiny hairs growing back slowly but surely!! I am positive that the hair loss can be somewhat reversed since its brought on by higher levels of testosterone its finding the right combination and a positive outlook helps etc I am just about to venture into buying the laser comb it has some compelling evidence of bringing about new hair growth, start doing some research if you havn't already it may give you some hope... Good Luck

has anyone gone to a dermatologist for the hair loss? i talked to my endocrinologist and she told me to go see a dermatologist...does anyone know if that actually helps? I am sure that he is just going to perscribe some meds, but I don't quite know what to expect. My appoitment is in 2 weeks and I am going to do some research first on meds so I will know what he is talking about. So, hopefully it goes well and I am maybe reverse this hair loss...
I first went to a dermatologist .. the only ting a derm will offer is Rogaine ... its preety yucky stuff and you have to use it for life IF it works ... it didnt help me ....
I found my endo the best he is the person that should prescribe a higher dose of Spiro, offer Propecia, Flutamide, or other options to you
