Question Questions!

So I had a Endo appointment Tuesday. The good news is my testosterone was back into normal range. THe bad news was my TSH was 3.68, which is an increasing tread upward. The doctor was concerned but said she wanted to test one more time before starting me on medication. My mother has Hypothyroid and been on Synthroid for as long as I can remember. Before the doctor had even shown me the numbers I was complaining about my increasing loss of hair. I have tons of soft dark hair, but I've noticed lately that the amount I'm pulling out of the shower drain and off my shoulders is on the rise. The other thing i've noticed is my feet are constantly cold, living in Florida I've gotten used to wearing Flip-flops and open toed shoes everywhere. Unfortunately I get where ever I'm going and my feet feel like they are perched on ice cubes, and yet everywhere else I could be sweating bullets. I"m not excited about this possible diagnosis and Unsure whether I should just accept this is happening or find a more proactive doctor.

It sounds to me like you have hypothyroid symptoms. Your TSH is a little high. The new ranges are 0.3 to 3.0. I sounds like your doc isn't against treating you for it, but she may need a little more persuading. Have you told her of your syptoms? She should already know the new ranges. You could ask her for a perscription of a low dose just to see if it will make you feel better. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

Go back to your dr. and explain how your life is changing because of symptoms of hairloss and reduced circulation in feet. Esp. since you have a mother with hypothyroid, and your tsh is trending upwards...all these things together mean something. If the endo. is willing, I'd ask for some form of treatment now to see if your physical signs of hypo. retreat.
