Unhappy QUESTIONS...ABOUT AF...sorry long

I would like to say hi....im new to the board... my story in a nutshell.....

went on the BCP (marvelon) at 16 for irregualr periods and severe cramps....
I am now 27....i was on them for 10 years without a break....
I had an ultrasound at 16...it did not show endometriosis or PCOS....
since then throughout the years i have had blood tests checking thyroid levels they came back normal....
I got married last year and took myself off the pill to get everything straight before we begin TTC (we were not going to try until summer of this year)
I went off 6 months ago and AF VANISHED.....never returned....after 3 months i went to the DR who did a pregnancy test (negative) and put me on 5 days of provera...1 week later AF came and lasted 4 days.....Dr told me if it comes regularily after that then dont come back...if it comes once then vanishes again for 2 months return....
It came again on its own 15 days after the cycle that was induced with Provera...this one lasted 7 days....then nothing...i am now in day 60 without a period...im not pregnant...I went for an ultrasound on thursday....yes an internal and external one (not fun) and the tech. said she did nto see any cysts...and that its probably a hormonal thing....but 2 months agao i had FSH,LSH etc all checked and my DR said that this was all normal...so if the ultrasound is nornal and hormoones showed up normal what could it be....if it is hormonal what type of tests do they do to find out what hormone is lacking.....how does this scenario (if hormone abnormalities) pan out when TTC?

Thanks for reading and any info would be great......has anyone else been in the same situation? HELP

Just liked to say HI and WELCOME!!

I know that lots of things can cause and absence of menstraution. I have found that lots of stress can hinder your period. Have you had any life changes (other than TTC)? Maybe a relaxing weekend would help kick start your cycle.

Welcome!

Hope you get AF all sorted out soon. PCOS is so very frustrating because different cysters have different symptoms. You can have PCOS without having cysts, if you're on BCP sometimes they don't show up on the US. (Mine did even though I was on BCP so you just never know!)

Will you be seeing your dr. again soon? I just wondered which meds you are taking, if any.

Hope you feel better soon
Hugs
Jenny

Welcome to SC! I don't get af unless I take provera and I am on metformin. Some cysters cycles have regulated off of met, but I am not sooo lucky! Good luck!

Default Welcome!

What type of doctor are you going to? If it is a normal PCP or GYN you might want to go to a reproductive endocrinologist. I wasted many years telling the doctors about pcos and finally I went to an RE and they told me about pcos...that is when I realized I was right where I needed to be. Especially if you are TTC. They are great...don't alot of emotional time on a PCP or GYN. They are generalized and though they are great for most patients, people w/ PCOS require someone in the specialized field.

It very well could be PCOS or you might have a thyroid condition (which mirrors PCOS alot especially the hypo-thyroid).

I hope you find the answers you are looking for and keep us posted.

Default af

thanks to everyone for their support.....I am going to see my doctor again this friday....she will have the results to my ultrasound by then. To answer someones question i am not currently on any meds....as i said my last encounter with problems of this kind was 10 years ago when they first put me on the BCP and since then nothing has been checked, that is until recently when this all came about. This doctor that sent me for an ultrasound is my new doctor the other one i used to have was the queen of brushing things off so this one is new and hopefully better....well see what she suggests. I am going to tell her that my husband and i will beign TTC in Jan/Feb of this year instead of waiting until June so maybe this will light a fire under her.......
Does anyone here have a hormonal imblalance...if so how was this diagnosed and treated.....i have been taking my basal body temp. and it averages a very low 35.89 in the last two weeks with three days at 36.5...so im figuring that my coverline is low, although this is day 64 of this cycle with no AF in sight!...not sure if this is means something or not....................how frustrating.....grrrrrrrr

:Hugs: PCOS is so frustrating!

I'm glad you have a different doctor. You deserve to be listened to and taken care of!

I was asking about meds because (as anyone who knows me can tell you) I was helped a lot by met. My periods regulated and I was actually able to conceive on met. Everybody's different-- but maybe my experience will give you hope.

Hope your appointment goes well. Let us know what you find out.
Email me or pm me if you ever want to talk!

Hugs
Jenny
