Well, friendly doctor and I tried Metformin & Glucophage XR and I simply could not hadle the side effects. So i've been prescribed Yasmin to make me cycle monthly and (hopefully) help me lose weight. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and was successful? Or any other opinions i would be glad to hear. thanks |

It helped with my excess androgens (ie. unwanted hair and acne) and I cycled regularly - my doctor had me cycle every 3 months. However, I don't believe it helped with weight. I went off last fall because I was sick of taking the pill and just "masking" my PCOS instead of trying to actually treat it (JMO about birth control being prescribed for this). I feel much less bloated and pudgey now, and am doing quite well treating all this in a more natural way.

I lost about 6 lbs at first (and then gained it back later) and my acne was more manageable, but it never totally went away. MKaz, what you are doing now and how happy are you with it? I'm going to the naturopath on Wed. to start treating the underlying issues.

As for the rest... I'm taking saw palmetto, multi-vitamin, omega 3-6-9, milk thistle (for liver support). I'm also taking something called Symplex F, which supports all hormone glands, that I get directly from my naturopath. I've had 3 regular cycles, then the next was late, and now I'm late again. I'm still early in the game for this new way of doing things, but overall I'm pretty happy. I think of it as a work in progress! I haven't been paying attention to my food like I should. I was told to go along the lines of the Schwarzbein (?) Principle, and I did for a while and it helped. I'd be interested in knowing how things go with your naturopath!!!

| Tired Cyster Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Millville NJ ![]() ![]() | I was on it (Yasmin) for a year. It did work well for me gave me AF after not having one for 2 years, actually made my moods a little better. The bad side though I started getting migraines horribly, and turns out it made my BP go up over time it was really high when they figured it out. I would say it's a good pill, but if you have high blood pressure or if any of your family has high blood pressure be careful. Try to monitor your BP with an at home one they are pretty inexpensive.

| Registered User | mkaz, I've got an appointment with a naturopath next week. My goal is to get off of Yaz, even though I've only been on it 2 months. I have felt awful ever since I started taking it--extreme fatigue, nausea, muscle weakness in my arms and legs, moodiness, etc. I didn't even want to get on bcp, but the only other alternative my regular endocrinologist gave me to reduce my testosterone levels was Byetta. (I am not a big fan of injections, nor am I trying to conceive). I am hoping the naturopath will look a little further into the situation (i.e., do some more testing on my hormones) and help me control my symptoms naturally. After reading these forums, though, I am convinced progesterone cream will help me once I get off bcp. Did your naturopath happen to mention anything to you about progesterone to control your cycles and help with PCOS symptoms? |
