Default questions about different birth controls lol

okay. well i have questions about differnet birth controls.. i was gonna makethem separate posts but ill jsut do it all in one. i actually want a a good birth control to prevent pregnancy ( i just had a baby cannot afford another child at the moment,) and to help with pcos.. and most of you women know what i mean by that.. like facial hair, depression, cysts, etc. but here are the ones im considering.
depo provera shot- will this increase my weight signifacantly even though im already 220 lbs.? and will it help with the pcos at all?
iud/iuc - either mirena or paragard- will this affect the fact i have ovarian cysts? making them more painful? has any body has success with either one. what are the chances of is dislodging? can i take paragard and metformin?
i hate birth control pills.. they screwed me up real bad. but if you guys wanna add something here about a successful pill for yourself go for it lol
um.. and also the implanon.
anyone know anything at all about this?

i will be asking my doctor on tuesday about these also finding out which is best for me. etc. i just want to know what you guys know about each thank you

I just got Paragard myself, and as long as it works i think it's a godsend. i never liked the idea of being on the pill because i always thought it was just a quick fix so i'd get a period but was only masking the real problem (whatever that may be)...i didn't find out about Paragard until my last pregnancy and knew right away I had to have it!! As I just had it put in I don't really have any advice or experience to share but did want to mention that I am on metformin with the paragard

OMG, don't do depo. I have never heard it recommended for or helping PCOS, and IMO it caused mine--or worsened it instantly 10000x. I gained 50 pounds, horrible acne, head hairloss, rages, and fatigue of an old person. It's not worth "not having a period" (although I bled for four months solid after last shot was skipped). And I did not have a regular AF & ovulation for 8 years after that--and it took herbs for that to happen. I was normal before depo.

For PCOS, I would go with a monophasic birth control pill or a copper IUD. Oh, I see, you didn't want a bcp. Ok. Me too. Well, I'd vote for the copper IUD. I had one for 7 years after depo. It doesn't cause fat, fatigue, or mess up your entire system. I did not bleed worse or better with the IUD. I was able to take other medications to help PCOS (spiro & herb DCI) and still not get pregnant. The IUD is very effective, and very reversible.

My OB, when he inserted it, said at his ripe age of 60 he could count the number of IUD's he had seen perforate (get "stuck" in uterus) on one hand ever. I think it is pretty rare. If your partner "feels" the string, it can be trimmed shorter.

The only reason I didn't get another one after DD is 1) money at the time and 2) I wanted to try the "new" bcp to see if they'd regrow head hair and straighten out my wild wild AF.

Conclusion: I still hate estrogen and if my minipill trial fails, I will be getting another IUD and going back to spiro and wild wild AF.

I posted about this on another thread, but here it is:

Like you, I was in the same position. I had just had a baby (my second. My first was only 13.5 months old), and I too wanted a reliable form of BC because we couldn't afford another child and my body was falling apart already from closely spaced PGs. I opted to get the ParaGard at the urging of my OB. Keep in mind that while it says it's like 99.6% effective, those statistics do not apply to every woman. If your uterus doesn't like it, there's nothing you can do to keep it from expelling. So it's really a chance you're taking that your uterus will be okay with it...which they can't really make statistics for. I personally think the success rate is only taking into consideration those women who have not had it expel. I know of 4 people (myself included) who have had the IUD expel. My best friend has her 3rd child because of it, our friend Megan got PG but miscarried, and another woman got PG with twins. I myself just gave birth to my little IUD failure lol. It was quite a shock to find out that after 3 months of no issues with the IUD, it just expelled and I got PG. Supposedly if it hasn't expelled after the first month, you're golden. Not so in my case.

If you really and truly do not want to get PG again so soon and you don't want to do BCP's (and I've never heard ANYONE praise Depo), I would advise a different form of BC like Natural Family Planning (where you chart your temps and cervical fluid and abstain or use condoms during fertile periods). I will never ever get another IUD again and I always advise others who are thinking about it to seek an alternative simply because I know of too many women who have had failures.

Unhappy whoa

Whoa...I guess I was just lucky then--with the IUD, *snort* cause most bcp sent me over the edge. I am getting disillusioned with our birth control options in the USA (Brazil has a real progesterone Ring and Denmark just got a new bcp with bioidentical low-dose hormones, where is ours!!???), and my cycles are wayyyy too wild to depend on natural family planning. Also, if I don't ovulate, I need to be on drugs to combat PCOS or something, otherwise I balloon up and shed hair bigtime. Most of those drugs--esp spiro, require no pg. Endless vicious cycle--I HATE PCOS!

I even tried to get a diaphragm after DD was born. I called EVERY single pharmacy and PP in 200 miles (and we're suburban to largest city in southeast) and NO one had the diaphragm anymore. And I've tried the sponge and HATED it, it "stung," and I had a heck of a time removing it.

My OB has me on Yaz. I also take Metformin to help with PCOS stuff. She said she prefers Yaz for her PCOS patients. I didn't ask why. I don't have issues with bcp's, so it works fine for me. I had headaches for the first month, but they have gone.

If you are very concerned about not getting pregnant I'd back up an bc method with charting, etc.

i had an ectopic pregnancy before so apparently the iud is not a good option either way. i really don't want to do the pill but im looking at my options at the moment ( of pills) i had realy bad experiences before.. it's so strange because i never worried about bc before in my life!! lol i'm currently 215 lbs and want to lose weight to at 150 before i try to get pregnant again. which is why i wont consider the iud any more either because even though its reversible its pointless to get something so long term if i might lose the weight within this year (i wish lol) sigh
