Default Questions about Met/IR

I have an appointment with my doctor in 2 weeks. I have a feeling that I have IR or diabetes. I'm thirsty all the time, exhausted, feel yucky after eating sweets/carbs, etc. I'm sure my doctor will answer my questions when I go but that's 2 weeks away!

First questions are IF I have IR: will I have to test daily (or multiple times/day)? If I'm put on Met, how much does it cost? (We have no insurance) I need to look at some other threads to see about diet and everything that goes along with it.

IF I have diabetes, what happens then?! I pretty much know nothing about this!

Thanks for any info/advice you can give!

Hi Jen
My met costs me $10/month for 90 pills, without insurance it is listed as $40 per month. (That's at Walgreens, it might be cheaper at a WalMart, Target, etc. pharmacy. Our insurance is at Walgreens so I'm not sure on other prices). For diet I know many cysters have had their symptoms improve and have lost weight on the IR diet. I lost weight on a low-fat diet but I did try to get lots of lean protein and eat "good" carbs. My doctor has me test my blood sugar once a week (I started out testing at least once a day, but my diabetes is extremely well controlled now so once a week is fine).
Good luck, hope this helps
Jenny
