I absolutely love sushi, but honestly how bad is it for PCOS'ers on diets?
I have ordered sushi rice from amazon.com (in bulk) as well as some Nori (seaweed for wrapping)
I don't plan on using raw fish with it because honestly we can't find any sushi grade seafood around here and my husband doesn't eat crab or shrimp. So it'll just be veggie rolls.
This is a link to the sushi rice I bought: Amazon
This is the Nori: Amazon
I guess I'll know more when they arrive and I'll see the nutrition content.

I don't know how 'bad' they are sinnie...rice isn't the greatest but the seaweed and veggies shouldn't cause much harm....I don't think...I hope not I love sushi to pieces.
A shame you can't get the fish required.
Did you try googling?

I plan on using as little rice as possible when doing the rolls. I get the stuff tomorrow so I can experiment with it for supper.
I have lower sodium soy sauce which is still awful (about 580mg sodium)
I did find a company at this link that you can get sushi safe fish over-nighted to you and it's temperature controlled. http://www.catalinaop.com/
Shipping is kind of high and makes it not worth it unless you're buying stuff you can't get locally. My target prepares some sushi but not a huge selection and sometimes they're out.
So I do plan on ordering some, but only after I get proficient with rolling it with vegetables.
I also think sushi rice is somewhat better for you.

The rolls I got were awful, well they tasted good however they were small so you had to roll each individual piece one by one. I was expecting a large sheet of seaweed, to roll a large roll then to cut into smaller pieces. So I will not be buying it again, however I ordered more sheets from another company that should be larger.
Also you can't use brown rice because sushi rice is special and a lot finer. It is sticky (not like other rice) so if you use other rice it'll just fall apart.
I also hate brown rice, mostly because of the color.
Also all SUPER Targets that have full grocery w/ deli should have sushi in the deli section, but actually after traveling to MO, TN, KY, GA and SC, the only one I know for sure that has it are in my town (and we have 2 Targets on opposite ends here and both serve large selections of sushi.)

Our Super Target has sushi (as to most of our regular grocery stores)

do you have an asian market nearby? sushi stuff at the supermarket costs me well over twice what it does at the fantastic not so little market near my flat and the selection is more extensive. if you're focusing on low gi carbs, the vinegar in sushi rice should lower it's gi a little and i've found that i can add a teaspoon or so more than called for without affecting the texture or taste of the rice, hopefully lowering it even more . i believe sushi rice is a high gi rice -but- you can substitute basmati rice (medium gi) without too much change in the texture and taste. of course it's not totally authentic sushi, but get some pickled ginger and radish to more than make up for the basmati's failings .
I've found that if I don't eat over 2 or 3 it's just not that bad for you. You could also buy the kind that use brown rice. Auntie Anne's is the brand name I believe, in stores?
Restaurant sushi rice has added sugar. For me rice is a no no. If i have rice, it's brown. If I want Japanese I eat sashimi...fish w/o the rice.

Seems like sashimi is the best answer. Too bad it's so hard to find and expensive. I have to get it shipped in overnight from California and then I have to eat it all within a week or it goes bad. Not worth ordering unless I order a lot, so it's kind of a pain.
I do love the raw fish the most though, so that's the good thing.
I do have sushi rice but it's white. I don't think there is brown sushi rice, and it wouldn't be the right consistency to make it with regular brown rice.

Eden Organics sells some great sushi making things. Really good seaweed (REALLY GOOD). And lots of other goodies. The ppk blog also has some good pointers on sushi making. It is a vegan blog, but the food is great and often very PCOS friendly. I am not a vegan, but I do eat vegan a lot of the time by trying to avoid dairy.
Anyway, I have made sushi many times with both white and brown rice and it is good both ways, just different. You can also just roll the veggies in the seaweed and that is also a great snack. I especially like pickled radish and cucumber rolls that way.
