Question questions after m/c?????

I had a scan today and everything looks normal after my miscarriage last week. We have been told to wait until I have had one normal cycle before we start trying again. I just wondered if anyone found their pcos caused a delay in their cycle after a miscarriage? I have always had a 30 - 40 day cycle or just nothing at all. I am worried i will be waiting months for aunt flo to appear!!!

I also wondered if anyone takes Metformin, when did you start taking it again after m/c?

one more thing, non medical, do group therapy sessions help? I am not sure whether to go or not... I don't want to just sit and cry in a room full of strangers!

thanks for your help everyone, I hope you are all ok
love em x

Em,
I find at my support group meetings that no one is a stranger in that room. These are the people who actually understand. And care. And know what your baby means to you and this world. It's not for everyone, but it really helps me. I didn't go for the first few months, because I thought I would just cry the whole time. Once I did go, I felt good and thought that I probably could have handled it earlier. I think it feels good to know that I'm not the only one in the world to have this kind of experience and that others have gone on to lead happy lives (though we will always remember our babies). It gives me a light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

On the issue of your cycles coming back, I think it's best to be patient and let your body decide. Mine has been good since I started low carbing over a year ago, 35-43 day cycles (hopefully shorter as I get healthier). Just take good care of yourself, and I'll bet your pattern will return soon. And I would recommend getting back on metformin immediately, but I'm one who wouldn't stop for any reason, including pregnancy. (Metformin junkie, here)
Best wishes,
Sheri

Em,

After my m/c it took about 45 days for af to arrive. After that things were back to normal and the RE said things were good to go. He let me go back on the met just a few days after the d/c.

AF just came a few days ago which was about 50 days after the m/c so i'd just wait it out. As for the met, I would never get off of it so i'd get on it right away as it may make the difference as to when AF shows. GL!!

I think if I would have waited for af...I'd still be waiting.
Since I don't regularly have a period I took Provera a few weeks after I got the ok from my doctor.
I didn't bother really waiting to restart met since I didn't ever stop taking it.

I am sorry about your miscarriage, I went thru the same exactly one month again and the good news is that I started my cycle on Saturday ( not even a month before) I am hoping to get started trying again, but I too have questions about metformin, I am going to talk to my OB on Wednesday, so we will see. I have read that melformin reduces the risk of miscarriage so I am going to ask the DR. I went off of it before I got pregnant because it was making me sick and sicne the Dr. told me that I would go off once I got a positive result, I figured that it was bad for the baby. Maybe I was wrong, I don' tknow but this time I am going to make more of a clinical and informed decision with my Dr. Were you on Melformin during the pregnancy? I am so confused myself and I feel for you

Thanks for the reply Amy, I am sorry to hear you have been through the same awful experience.
I was on Metformin (1700mg) and stopped as soon as I got the positive hpt. My doctor said I must do, and I should if i fall pregnant again. She said the advice may change in the future but that is how it stands now in this country (UK).
I would appreciate any information you could give me though, I want to the best I can!
Thanks again for the reply
take care

If you do a search on yahoo or google or on the SC website, you'll find lots of info about the benefits of staying on MET at least through the 1st trimester of pregnancy. The rate of having a m/c w/out taking the Met is astronomical. My re wouldn't even let me do the IVF until I had been on the met for 6 mos. Even now, the my doctor asks me at every visit if i'm taking it and tells me that if I forget to do anything at all, I CANNOT forget to take the Met. It's even more important than the prenatal vitamins. GL!!!

Well, now I am more confused than ever. I called my Endrocronologist and my old Dr. from St. Louis who I totally trust and they both say that the met. had nothing to do with my miscarriage but all the research that I read on the internet says otherwise. I am going to the OB tomorrow to consult with him about it too, but I have no idea what to do . My situation seems to be different, I had a totally healtly child not on the met. and so that is waht makes me wonder what to do. I had a heathly child not on it and miscarriage on it yet the research says that it drops the chances of miscarriage. Any help????

I'm not sure what to say to that except that i've talked to cysters on here that had a child "before" their PCOS diagnosis, then couldn't get pregnant. Then they went on Met and got pregnant pretty quickly. My RE makes you keep seeing him instead of an ob until you are 4mos pregnant because he told me most OB's won't keep you on the Projesterone supplements because they see it as unnecessary, and they don't like to prescribe Met for some reason.

Maybe if you brought it some printed out research about it? Maybe a new doctor? I am really not sure what else to say except i'll say a prayer for you!

I was told the metformin definately did not cause my miscarriage.
The should I/shouldn't I debate about Metformin is really confusing. My sister researched it for me as she has access to medical research and she said it can be a dangerous drug if handled inncorrectly. I therefore gave up alcohol (very hard!!) for about 6 months before positive hpt and stopped taking it when pregnant.
i just don't understand why there isn't a definate answer, surely there are enough of us on this web site to give them medical proof!
Sorry, needed to vent, I just wish I knew what to do for the best. I am back on it, I shall decide whether to stop taking it when pregnant when I get there. (Being positive!)
Any thoughts?
Good luck

I was told too that my m/c wasn't from not enough Met, it was my blood, but there are soooo many women on here who have suffered several m/c got on Met and had healthy babies.

Granted, Met isn't everyone's problem but common sense would be that since Met helps women by regulating their hormones. When you are pregnant, you have tons of new hormones flowing through your body. To me it's common sense that if you take it for yourself, you should take it to help ensure a healthy pregnancy, at least through the 1st trimester. Just what my doctor told me anyways.
